Sime Darby Motors has been appointed as the official distributor of Xpeng vehicles in the Hong Kong market.

Following the announcement of its entry into markets like Malaysia and Thailand, Chinese EV marque Xpeng is also poised to enter yet another regional right-hand drive (RHD) market, which is Hong Kong. For its venture into the island state, Xpeng has partnered with Malaysian automotive group Sime Darby Motors (SDM), and said firm has now been appointed as the brand’s local distributor.

As reported by Bernama, SDM will be handling the Xpeng brand in Hong Kong, where said firm will open up the marque’s flagship store, as well as handling all the after-sales services and guiding customers comprehensively through each stage of the buying process.

Both the Xpeng G6 SUV (left) and X9 MPV (right) are poised to debut into the Hong Kong market.

Poised to make its official Hong Kong market entry some time in Q3 this year, the South China Morning Post reports that both the G6 SUV and the X9 MPV are set to become the two inaugural models to be introduced by Xpeng in the island-state market. Coincidentally, these two models were also reported to be the first two models to be introduced by Xpeng in the aforementioned regional RHD markets, including Malaysia.

Commenting on this momentous occasion, Xpeng president Brian Gu said, “Today marks a major milestone in Xpeng’s go-global strategy. With our advanced smart driving technology and innovative mobility solutions, we are committed to providing Hong Kong car owners with smarter, more convenient and environmentally friendly driving experiences.”

The appointment of SDM in Hong Kong also follows the announcement made by Xpeng for its planned entry into selected regional RHD markets like Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia. For our local market, it was premium automotive group Bermaz Auto (BAuto) that has been appointed as the official distributor of the Xpeng brand here, with said group currently involved with other brands like Mazda and Kia.
