First Look: 2026 Xpeng P7+ Global Version – 3 Things We Learned

More than a month after its first exclusive preview, the embargo has finally lifted for us to talk about Xpeng’s next global model, the updated 2026 Xpeng P7+.
Unveiled earlier this month in China, the updated P7+ carries a host of improvements and slight tweaks over the outgoing model, but what perhaps created the most buzz surrounding this fastback EV sedan is that it will become the brand’s next global product.

We were invited by Xpeng to its global media tour event in Guangzhou, China, late last year to size up the new P7+ up close and personal, and here are three things we learned about this refreshed fastback EV saloon…

It Looks Very Similar to the Previous Version!
For its 2026 version, Xpeng says the new P7+ boasts over 104 upgrades over the outgoing model. That said, the new model does look very similar to the previous version, as the bulk of the changes are actually taking place beneath its well-sculpted facade.
From the outside, the new P7+ retains its fastback sedan bodystyle with an extremely rakish rear windscreen that goes all the way to the tailgate, giving it a very distinctive look over any other futuristic Chinese EV saloons out there.

The minor changes include a slightly redesigned front bumper that includes active shutters for the air intakes, a full-width LED DRL, new 19- and 20-inch wheel options, new LED taillights that completely encircle the Xpeng lettering on the tailgate, and more.

Measuring over five metres in length, the new P7+ will be going against other popular mid-to-large premium EV sedans in Europe.
Dimension-wise, the new P7+ grows slightly longer than the previous model, now spanning 5,071 mm long (+15 mm from before), 1,973 mm wide, and 1,512 mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. Not to forget, a total of five exterior colourways are available, namely Arctic White, Graphite Gray, Midnight Black, Silver Frost, and Stellar Purple.
As for the interior, the updated model retains the same minimalistic cabin setup seen on many other Xpeng models, finished in either light gray or dark gray.

Some new bits primed here include an expansive 29-inch head-up display (HUD) that paves the way for a smaller 8.8-inch digital metre cluster, redesigned front A/C vents, a new electrically-operated glove box, heated and ventilated front seats with massage functions and zero-gravity mode for the passenger side, reclinable rear seats with massage functions, soft-close doors, an active noise cancellation system, and more.

That said, other things like the 15.6-inch central screen, ambient lights, and the 20-speaker audio suite are still carried over from the outgoing model. Boot space is quite plenty for the P7+, measuring 573 litres as standard and expandable to 1,904 litres with the rear seats folded down.

All in all, the new P7+ may not look radically different from the previous model, but all these new features are here to make this sleek fastback saloon more premium and luxurious than before.

Comes in Both BEV & EREV, Latest Turing AI Chip
Perhaps the biggest change for the new P7+ is the availability of a new extended-range EV (EREV) variant to go along with the standard battery EV (BEV) version.

The former is available in three guises, with both the Standard Range and Long Range variants being powered by a single, rear-mounted (RWD) electric motor rated at 245 PS and 313 PS, respectively, while sharing a torque output of 450 Nm. The third variant gets a peppier dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration delivering 503 PS and 670 Nm that enables a rapid 0-100 km/h time of 5.1 seconds.
Two LFP battery options will be offered, either a 61.7 kWh or a larger 74.9 kWh. The former can be found on the Standard Range model, granting it up to 450 km of range, while the latter provides 550 km and 500 km of travel ranges in the Long Range and Performance variants, respectively.

What’s more impressive is that the new P7+ can support 5C ultra-fast charging, thanks to its impressive 800-volt silicon carbide platform that enables a 10-80% charge to be completed in just 12 minutes. That said, both the AC and V2L figures for the new P7+ are still capped at 11 kW and 3.3 kW, respectively.
Moving on to the EREV version, it adds a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that acts as a generator to its sizable 49.2 kWh battery pack, which in turn juices up the 245 PS-rated electric motor. Some claimed figures include up to 430 km of EV-only range, which is enough to make it the longest EV-only range offered in any EREV sedan, while its combined range is capped at an impressive 1,550 km—mind you, both these figures are based on the more lenient CLTC standards.

With the new model not yet ready by the time we were there, Xpeng did let us drive the previous version of the P7+ instead on busy Guangzhou streets.
While we didn’t get the chance to test drive the new P7+, Xpeng did let us drive the previous version. Driving along busy stretches of Guangzhou streets with some short highway sections, we found that both the ride and comfort of the car were quite top-notch, as we didn’t experience any floatiness or head tosses that often occurred in any ‘normal’ EVs we drove.
As for the driving feel, the P7+ still gets the same slight ‘numbing’ steering feel like many other Chinese EVs out there, but we found it to be engaging enough for you to do some quick manoeuvres. us that this EV sedan is catered towards being more of a luxurious people-carrier than something you’d take to twisty B-roads with.

Another aspect that Xpeng often highlighted for the new P7+ is its computing power, as the new model is now available with up to three of Xpeng’s own Turing AI chips that combine to deliver up to 2,250 TOPS of computing power. This enables the fastback sedan to support both urban and highway Navigation-on-Autopilot, which works seemingly well during our test on busy Guangzhou streets.
That said, it remains to be seen whether all the self-driving bits will eventually make their way to other overseas markets, given the different regulations made upon these technologies.

Available in up to 36 Countries—Malaysia Included?
As mentioned earlier, the new 2026 Xpeng P7+ will join the brand’s global product lineup, where it is slated to arrive in up to 36 countries, with Europe being among the earliest ones to get them.
This sleek fastback EV will be making its official global debut later on Jan 8 in China, while its European debut will take place the next day on the 9th at the upcoming Brussels Motor Show 2026.

As of writing, it remains to be seen whether Malaysia is included in the roster, but considering that fellow right-hand drive (RHD) markets like the UK are already confirmed for one, there’s a high chance that the new P7+ will make its way into our market in the near future.
While the now expired tax-free incentives for imported EVs might hinder its arrival, we previously reported that Xpeng has agreed to partner with EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) to set up its own local assembly efforts here in Malaysia, making us the brand’s third-ever overseas production operation aside from Austria and Indonesia.
Should both EPMB and Xpeng get their local assembly (CKD) efforts underway in time, there’s a chance that we might get a CKD version of the P7+ in our market, alongside both the existing G6 and X9.

So folks, what do you think of the new 2026 Xpeng P7+? Will this sleek and luxurious fastback EV become a viable product for our market? Or would you rather see something more affordable like the Xpeng Mona M03, which is also confirmed to be part of Xpeng’s growing global product lineup?
