Since the introduction of the Tesla Model Y in July last year, Tesla Malaysia has been at the forefront of all things electrified. It often steals the spotlight from other industry players when it comes to technology, EV charger rollout, special market entry exemptions, and much more.

Today, however, Tesla Malaysia is making headlines for mimicking the company's global operations locally.

A quick check on Tesla Malaysia's website reveals that the company has reduced the pricing of all of its models and variants available in Malaysia by RM8,000, with the exception of the recently announced Model 3 Performance, which only opened its order books a few days ago.

The Model Y RWD is now priced at RM191,000, the Long Range AWD at RM238,000, and the Performance AWD at RM280,000. Meanwhile, the Model 3 costs RM181,000 for RWD and RM210,000 for Long Range AWD.

Tesla is widely known for maintaining its market dominance by submitting its offerings to price cuts and hikes, much like any other volatile commodity. Having said that, the RM8,000 price cut is one of the minimal one, since we previously reported that in more mature markets such as in the US and China prices are slashed by up to RM20,000 to improve sales figures.

Even if such practices are common, and consumers understand that what they are purchasing is more than just the cost of automotive engineering, but a full ecosystem of future mobility, do you believe they are necessary, particularly in developing countries such as Malaysia?

A brief check on social media shows that owners, potential owners, and side-liners have varied feelings, with some all in for it and others concerned that Tesla, as the brand's owner, is lowering the second-hand market value of their vehicles.

Furthermore, what if you were among those who lately acquired yours at the previous price? Please leave a comment; we would like to hear your thoughts on this topic.
