Lamborghini’s New V8 Hybrid Detailed – 789 HP, Up to 10,000 RPM

Lamborghini has revealed the details of its new V8 hybrid powertrain set to power the Huracan’s successor.
It is no secret that Lamborghini is in the midst of replacing the V10-powered Huracan with a new model that will reportedly be powered by an electrified V8 powertrain setup. While no details were unveiled regarding this new supercar except that it might be called the ‘Temerario’, the Italian automaker was at least nice enough to provide details regarding its electrified V8 setup.

Replacing the Huracan’s tried-and-tested 5.2-litre nat-asp V10 mill is an entirely new hybrid powertrain comprising a brand-new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that has been developed specifically for Lamborghini instead of using existing units from the VW Group’s inventory. Despite losing a few displacements over its predecessor, this new twin-turbo V8 mill features a flat-plane crank that promises to deliver the same hard-edged supercar experience as the V10 Huracan.
While Lambo has yet to reveal detailed specifications regarding this powertrain setup, the automaker says that the new V8 is capable of delivering up to 789 HP and 730 NM by itself, as well as singing at up to 10,000 RPM. Even without the electrification assist, this new V8 is already more powerful than Huracan’s V10, with said ten-pot mill only able to generate 631 HP and 565 NM.

Although no details were shed by Lambo on this new V8’s electrification assist, Autocar UK reported that it will come in the form of a single electric motor mounted at the rear axle of the car, providing 148 HP and 300 NM of boost to the V8 mill. However, other sources claim that the V8 might be paired with two electric motors instead, which may help the whole powertrain deliver over 900 HP.
As of now, Lamborghini has yet to reveal the name or any plain images of the Huracan successor, although the recent trademark filed by the Italian automaker for the ‘Temerario’ name might indicate its actual moniker. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait for long this time around, as this new V8 hybrid-powered supercar by Lamborghini is poised to make its maiden appearance later in August this year, joining the marque’s new electrified lineup comprising the manic Revuelto hypercar and the newly-unveiled Urus SE.
