EV Adoption Up 18.1% In Singapore - 3,661 Public EVCB Across The Island

Between Jan and May this year, about one in three new cars registered in neighbouring Singapore was an electric vehicle (EV).
In fact, EVs account for 4,819 units - roughly 32.6% - of the 14,802 new vehicles registered in this period, marking a significant increase of 18.1% compared to the same period last year.
According to the island republic’s leading daily Straits Times Singapore, Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat highlighted on July 2 that various financial incentives, grants for charger installations in private residences, and laws ensuring charger safety, reliability, and accessibility, have spurred this growth in EV adoption.

He also stated that the installation of EV chargers throughout the island nation is going well, with over 7,100 charging sites already operational. This includes charging stations in more than a third of Housing Board parking lots.
In terms of incentives, new electric vehicle owners can earn rebates of up to SG$40,000 (RM139,540.60). This includes SG$15,000 (RM52,327.73) from the EV Early Adoption Incentive and up to SG$25,000 (RM87,212.88) from the improved Vehicular Emissions Scheme.
Meanwhile, the EV Common Charger Grant, launched in 2021, has co-funded the installation of 1,100 EV chargers in private condominiums, up from 789 chargers in November 2023. This award is valid until December 31, 2025, or until 2,000 chargers have been supported.
As a result of these measures, EV adoption in Singapore has surged. By the end of June, there were 3,661 publicly accessible charging points.
In 2022, EVs accounted for 11.7% of total new car registrations. The total number of electric cars in Singapore grew from 6,531 units at the end of 2022, representing 1% of the overall car population, to 16,738 units, or 2.6%, by May 31.
