Penang Eyes 600 EVCBs This Year, Includes New ChargeSini DCFC

The Penang state government revealed today that it targets to establish 600 EV charging bays (EVCBs) by end of this year.
The Penang state government has targeted to establish up to 600 EV charging bays (EVCBs) by end of this year (2025). This was revealed during a ceremony held earlier today to officially launch the newest ChargeSini DC fast-charger (DCFC) in Penang.
Said target aligns with the federal government’s aim of establishing 10,000 EVCBs nationwide by end of this year too, explained YB H’ng Mooi Lye, Penang State EXCO member, who was present during the launch of the new ChargeSini DCFC facility mentioned.

Said target was revealed by YB H’ng Mooi Lye, Penang State EXCO member (far right) earlier today whilst officially launching a new ChargeSini DCFC facility.
He adds that the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) have assessed the viability of establishing EVCBs across Penang island as part of this plan’s first phase, and have already noted limitations stemming from the limited available space.
In lieu of which, MBPP intends to convert existing parking spaces into EVCBs and make them more accessible to the public and EV users. This includes converting existing parking bays located at both MBPP complexes and on-street-parking spaces.
A quick check via MEVnet reveals that Penang currently has 344 active EVCBs primed across 278 location – MBPP has effectively achieved 50% completion of the target it announced. All are expected to become operational by April 2025, costing users RM1.09/kWh (AC) and RM1.19/kWh (DC).

A quick check on MEVnet indicates that MBPP are essentially at 50% completion with their EVCB target announced.

The new ChargeSini DCFC station at Gat Lebuh Cina (in front of Digital Penang) is a prime example of MBPP's efforts of converting existing parking bays into EVCBs.
MBPP adds that 52 of which were recently established across 26 locations as of Jan 2025, and all are awaiting TNB power supply. Two of which are 22 kW AC charging units, while the remaining 50 units consists of 60 kW DCFC units.
Amongst the latest here is the new ChargeSini DCFC facility mentioned located at Gat Lebuh Cina (in front of Digital Penang). The facility features a 60 KW dual-gun DC charging station with dynamic load power dispensing abilities, and it costs users RM1.29/kWh.
