We continue with more news coming out of the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), which sees its 2024 edition take place this week. Another new model debut making headlines there is the third-generation Subaru Crosstrek, and it even features a rugged ‘Adventure Edition’ special on display.
This is effectively the successor to what many Malaysians are acquainted with as the Subaru XV and, for the Republic across the Malacca Strait, Subaru launched the new model in sole 2.0i-S EyeSight guise. As per its recent regional strategy shift, this is a fully imported (CBU) model from Japan too.
Though it appears familiar as its second-gen XV predecessor, there are plenty of new design changes all around to note in this third-gen follow up.
First revealed in late 2022, the third-gen crossover model packs a familiar 2.0-litre horizontally opposed or ‘boxer’/flat 4-cyl petrol mill primed with direct injection. It punches out 156 PS and 196 NM to drive all four wheels via Subaru’s signature Lineratronic CVT box and Symmetrical AWD setup.
Notably, the latter boasts active toque split abilities, plus a unique X-Mode that’s more biased for off-road driving – something many existing XV owners will be familiar with. For now, no sign of either the electrified e-Boxer hybrid or front-wheel-drive (FWD) options as seen in the Japanese market yet.
Also retained are the familiar naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre Boxer 4-cyl mill and Lineartronic CVT box plus Symmetrical AWD combination.
Redesigned too is the Crosstrek's interior, which now sports a new 11.6-inch portrait touchscreen display.
Though it remains familiar in looks as its predecessor, the new third-gen Crosstrek does sport new touches for which, namely through new headlights with distinct new LED DRLs, new 18-inch wheels, redesigned hexagonal front grille, new taillights, as well as new front and rear bumpers.
On board, the third-gen XV successor gains a new 11.6-inch portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen offering both Apple and Android connectivity, power adjustable seats plus a sunroof as standard kit, and a newly redesigned dash and steering wheel.
Also standard-equipped is the signature Subaru EyeSight ADAS suite.
Crucially, the third-gen Crosstrek also packs a slew of Active Driver Assistance (ADAS) features packaged through Subaru’s signature EyeSight suite. This comes on top of key basics that encompass nine airbags inclusive of seat cushion airbags too.
Apart from the standard model, Subaru’s Indonesian arm also showed off a rather rugged ‘Adventure Edition’ special and limited edition variant at GIIAS 2024. This variant is limited to just 10 units, and it comes primed with a slew of exclusive accessories and features.

Highlights of the latter include an integrated roof rack supplied by Mafort, bespoke 18-inch Method MR502 ally wheels shod in all-terrain tyres in 235/55 profile, as well as ‘Adventure’ emblems and decal graphics.
Up to this point, the new third-gen Crosstrek is already marketed across most ASEAN markets, but Malaysia is the only exception for now. It’s uncertain when exactly we’ll see this model debut locally soon, and it now faces the challenge of stiffer new pricing as a CBU offering when it eventually arrives.
Back to the Indonesian model shown at GIIAS 2024, it’s now on sale in the Republic priced from IDR549.5 million (RM158,625). The limited-run Adventure Edition version, on the other hand, sees each of its 10-unit run command IDR574.5 million (RM165,819) instead.
