Third-Gen Honda Freed MPV Gets Stylish Mugen Body Kits
The third-gen Honda Freed MPV now gets two new sporty body kits from Mugen.
Fresh from making its debut in Japan, the third-gen Honda Freed MPV is already getting a sporty makeover, courtesy of Mugen. The renowned JDM tuner offers two exterior body kits for both the standard Freed Air and the slightly rugged Freed Crosstar variant.
Third-gen Honda Freed Air Mugen
Starting with the Freed Air, the Mugen makeover adds some sporty touch-ups that give the MPV some Type R vibes. For starters, the Mugen Freed Air comes with a fiercer front face thanks to its new bumper add-on featuring a pair of functional intakes and a front splitter.
The sporty body kit continues to the side part of the Mugen Freed Air, with the compact MPV getting a pair of sporty side skirts complemented by a black stripe beneath the character line. Also new here are the dual five-spoke aftermarket wheels the car rides on, which look less ‘civilian’ than the standard units primed prior.
At the rear, the Mugen Freed Air gets a matching rear bumper extension with a faux diffuser, plus a roof-mounted spoiler and a black decal on its tailgate. The MPV also looks to be riding on a lowered suspension, although neither Honda nor Mugen have confirmed whether the Mugen Freed Air is getting a new damper setup.
Moving on to the more rugged Mugen Freed Crosstar, this crossover-esque MPV gets more subtle yet still stylish design changes. Decked atop its front hood are the black-hued Mugen lettering, while the rest of the car gets unique camouflage Mugen decals that run from the side to the tailgate. Speaking of the tailgate, the Mugen Freed Crosstar also gets a roof-mounted spoiler at the back.
Also new here are the blacked-out alloy wheels the Mugen Freed Crosstar rides on, plus black-hued side mirrors and wind deflectors to match with its partially black front and rear bumpers.
Before we get your hopes too high, both of these Mugen-tuned Freeds don’t get any performance upgrades, as the tuner focuses more on the aesthetic changes for these two MPVs. This means that both the pictured Freed Air and Crosstar are still powered by Honda’s proprietary e:HEV hybrid powertrain setup, which features a 1.5-litre 4-cyl Atkinson Cycle petrol mill that acts as a generator to power its two electric motors.
The detailed catalogue of the Mugen parts for both the Honda Freed Air and Crosstar will be announced later this fall, along with the prices for each part.
