Toyota GR GT Cup 2024 Grand Finals Revs Up This Weekend At Sunway University

The Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup 2024 national sim-racing championship shifts into its Grand Finals stage this weekend. Held at the Sunway University campus, the two-day affair runs on both Saturday (July 27) and Sunday (July 28) and is opened to the public from 10AM to 6PM across both days.

The premier e-sport series organised by UMW Toyota Motor, previously known as the Toyota Gazoo Racing Velocity E-Sport Championship, marks its seventh consecutive season this year. As detailed prior, the series had toured a number of higher learning campuses nationwide under the ‘GR Tour’ banner ahead of this weekend’s finale, which sees its grand prize pool totaling at RM120,500.

The 20 challengers of the main national championship will battle each other out this weekend across by racing a virtual iteration of the Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition, the GR Supra RZ sports coupe, as well as the Toyota GR010 Hybrid Le Mans Hypercar racer across renowned signature tracks from Gran Turismo 7 – the Sony Playstation-exclusive title this sim-racing tournament is rooted upon.

Apart from the main Championship tournament, a special Grand Final race will also be held on Sunday featuring the top ten student finalists from the GR Tour mentioned. There will also be a special exhibition race held this weekend featuring the young drivers from the TGR Rookies category of the highly competitive Toyota GR Vios Challenge.

Virtual racing action aside, visitors are also invited to challenge their friends in sim-racing to win merchandise, browse special Toyota GR-themed apparel and exclusive merchandise including collectible Tomica die-cast models, and bask in a special showcase of Toyota vehicles on display during the two-day event.

As per prior editions, top three finalists of this national-level championship will also represent Malaysia in the Toyota GR GT Cup Asia regional-level tournament. Through the latter, they will battle it out against the region’s best to earn their spot to compete in the Toyota GR GT Cup World Finals.
