The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) recently inspected 15 MRT stations in Kuala Lumpur as part of a proactive effort to safeguard public safety. The inspections revealed various issues that need immediate attention.

The purpose of the inspections was to verify that the station complies fully with Act 341 of the Fire Services Act 1988. Based on findings, key issues identified that will need enhancements are:

  • public address system, the main panel of the fire prevention system
  • pressurisation system in fire escapes
  • fire fighting lobby
  • faulty emergency lighting

Findings were then recorded and a formal notice issued to the respective stations, outlining the necessary steps that need to be taken for compliance. According to Bomba, these examinations are a continuous attempt to make sure that every piece of fire safety equipment is in good working order.

Bomba is also dedicated to ensuring that the Fire Safety Action Plan is operational and prepared for use in the event of an emergency or fire, as this is essential in protecting people and property.

The inspections took place in the wee hours of the two days, from 12:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. The inspection proceeded flawlessly with everyone's full cooperation, proving their commitment to fire safety.

The MRT system is a vital component of Kuala Lumpur's urban transportation network, and Bomba's continued efforts will undoubtedly contribute to ensuring that the stations remain secure and dependable for all users.
