BYD Seal 06 GT Unveiled in China As Brand’s New EV Hot-Hatch

The sporty BYD Seal 06 GT unveiled in China as the brand’s new EV hot-hatch ahead of its debut at the upcoming Chengdu Motor Show.
Remember the sporty BYD Ocean M Concept unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show earlier this year? It turns out BYD has decided to turn this all-electric concept hatch into a production model known as the BYD Seal 06 GT. This EV hot-hatch was unveiled in China ahead of making its first public debut at the upcoming Chengdu Motor Show later this week.

Just like its concept twin, the Seal 06 GT retains the concept’s sporty hatchback body style, albeit with a slightly toned-down manner. For starters, the Seal 06 GT’s front and rear bumpers appear to be more subtle than its concept twin with less prominent intakes and accents, while the concept’s aggressive rear wing has been swapped for a more conventional unit.
Also gone from the concept model are the unique LED graphics on both the headlights and taillights, while the production model sports conventional side mirrors instead of digital camera ones.
Dimension-wise, the new Seal 06 GT measures 4,630 MM long, 1,880 mm wide, 1,490 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,820 MM. This perfectly slots the EV hatch between the Dolphin EV hatch and the Seal EV saloon, while being slightly larger than fellow hot-hatches such as the MG4 and Volkswagen ID.3 GTX.

On board, the Seal 06 GT gets a more practical and subdued cabin space, with most of the parts being borrowed from its saloon twin. This includes the whole front dash layout featuring both the rotatable infotainment screen and the digital instrument cluster, the three-spoke steering wheel, the switch-style gear selector, and many more.

Riding on the same BYD e-Platform 3.0 Evo used on the recently-updated Seal EV saloon, the new Seal 06 GT comes in both single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD powertrain configurations. Although BYD has yet to unveil the detailed specifications for each powertrain setup, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) suggests that the RWD model can deliver up to 215 HP (160 kW), while the dual-motor AWD model gets a peppier total system output of 416 HP (310 kW).

As we mentioned earlier, the all-new BYD Seal 06 GT is slated to make its first public debut at the upcoming Chengdu Motor Show, which will be held later on Aug 30, where it is slated to be hit with a price tag ranging from CNY 150,000 to CNY 200,000 (RM90,000-RM120,000 approximately). Beyond its native Chinese market, there’s a big chance that BYD will export the new Seal 06 GT to other international markets such as Europe, Australia, and possibly Malaysia, too.
