Volvo EX30 EV SUV Set to Debut in Malaysia on September 25

The much-anticipated Volvo EX30 EV SUV crossover is slated to make its Malaysian debut later in Sept 25, 2024.
Following the opening of its registration of interests (ROI), the much-anticipated Volvo EX30 is getting much closer to making its local debut. Announced via Volvo Car Malaysia’s (VCM) official website and Facebook page, the EX30 compact EV SUV crossover will make its Malaysian debut later in Sept 25.

Previously launched in Thailand and Indonesia, Malaysia will become the third ASEAN nation to get this small EV crossover officially. And just like the former market, we can expect the EX30 to arrive in three variants here, namely the Core Single Motor Extended Range, Ultra Single Motor Extended Range, and Ultra Twin Motor Performance.
The two single-motor variants of the EX30 use a rear-mounted (RWD) e-motor setup rated at 268 HP and 343 NM, while the range-topping variant is the only one to get the dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup that delivers a total system output of 422 HP and 543 NM.

Regardless of variants, all Thai-spec EX30s are juiced by the same 69-kWh NMC battery pack that can be charged either via 11 kW AC and 153 kW DC inputs, the latter promising 10-80% re-charges in just 26.5 minutes. As for range, Volvo touts WLTP figures up to 480 KM (single-motor) and 460 KM (dual-motor).

Just like the smart #1, the Volvo EX30 also underpins Geely's proprietary SEA platform.
Underpinning Geely’s proprietary SEA platform, the Volvo EX30 measures 4,233 MM long, 1,837 MM wide, 1,555 MM high, and has a wheelbase of 2,650 MM. This essentially makes the EX30 similar in size to its fellow SEA twin, namely both the smart #1 and #3. Design-wise, on the other hand, the EX30 is often touted as a miniature version of the EX90 flagship EV SUV, featuring similar design cues such as its signature Thor’s Hammer LED headlights, dual-stack full-width LED taillights and many more.

Cabin equipment is also not too shabby for this small EV crossover, as the Malaysian-spec EX30 is slated to be primed with tech amenities such as the 12.3-inch portrait-oriented infotainment screen powered by Google, power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, cabin ambient lighting, Harman Kardon premium audio suite, as well as a host of semi-autonomous active driver assistance (ADAS) functions.
While VCM has announced the official launch date for the new Volvo EX30, the automaker has yet to reveal any initial pricing for this new small EV crossover. For reference, the EX30 is priced from THB 1.59 million (approx. RM209,149) to THB 1.89 million (approx. RM248,611) in the Thai market.
Should VCM manage to locally-assemble (CKD) the EX30 just like they did with the C40/XC40 Recharge duo, there’s a chance that we might get this small EV crossover cheaper compared to our Northern neighbour…
