Chery Omoda 5 Secures ASEAN NCAP 5-Star Rating - 88.64 Points

The Chery Omoda 5 compact crossover, launched locally last year, now stands as the brand’s first model to undergo assessment by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP). From which, the model has earned a prestigious 5-star rating with an impressive total score of 88.64 points.

The Chery Omoda 5 achieved high scores across all four assessment categories defined under the ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 protocol:
- Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): The vehicle scored 36.77 points out of a possible 40.00, reflecting its strong performance in protecting adult occupants during frontal and side-impact collisions.
- Child Occupant Protection (COP): With a score of 17.36 points out of 20.00, the Omoda 5 demonstrated robust safety measures for child passengers, including the effective use of child restraint systems.
- Safety Assist (SA): The Omoda 5 achieved 19.51 points out of 20.00, showcasing its advanced driver assistance systems designed to prevent accidents and mitigate the severity of crashes.
- Motorcyclist Safety (MS): The vehicle scored 15.00 points out of 20.00, emphasising its commitment to safeguarding motorcyclists, who represent a significant portion of road users in the ASEAN region.

Vehicle Safety Features
The Chery Omoda 5 offers a comprehensive suite of safety features as standard across all its variants. These include six airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Seatbelt Reminder (SBR), Rear Seat Occupant Detection Alert, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Automatic High Beam (AHB), and Pedestrian Protection (PP).
In addition to these standard features, the Omoda 5 offers several advanced safety assist technologies, either as standard or optional. These include Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), and Lane Keep Assist (LKA).

ASEAN NCAP's Perspective
Overall, ASEAN NCAP is pleased to see Chery’s commitment to safety through the OMODA 5 undergoing its rigorous assessment process, ensuring that the vehicle meets the safety standards required for the ASEAN market.
The 5-Star rating achieved by the Omoda 5 demonstrates Chery's dedication to safety and sets a high benchmark for its future models in the region.

According to Michael Chew, Chery Malaysia Vice President - “Achieving the ASEAN NCAP safety rating is a testament to our continuous commitment to safety, innovation, and most of all to our customers. This rating is not just a badge of honor; it is a promise to our customers that our OMODA 5 cars are built with your safety in mind as our highest priority.”
Additionally, the Chery Omoda 5 had also been awarded a 5-Star rating by Euro NCAP in December 2022, while both the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro recently received 5-Star safety ratings from the Australian NCAP.
Moving forward, the ASEAN NCAP hopes that Chery will maintain this level of safety excellence in all its future models as the organisation continues to push for higher safety standards in the region.
