Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max Scores Five Stars in the ANCAP Crash Test
The Aussie-spec Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max aces the ANCAP crash test by scoring a full five-star rating.
The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max has achieved a five-star rating in the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP). This midsize SUV from the Chinese automaker joins fellow compatriots like the Tiggo 7 Pro and the Omoda 5 in attaining the full star rating in said safety assessment.
The five-star rating garnered by the Aussie-spec Tiggo 8 Pro Max applies to all variants of the SUV, with said three-row SUV scoring 88% in the adult occupant protection category, followed by 87% in the children occupant protection category. This is followed by a 79% score in the vulnerable road user protection category and an 86% score in the safety assistance systems category.
More details on these scores, the Tiggo 8 Pro Max is rated at 5.49 points out of eight in the adult occupant protection test, while the full frontal test saw the SUV score 7.48 points out of eight. Meanwhile, the oblique pole test saw the Tiggo 8 Pro Max score 4.84 out of six points, and the whiplash protection saw 3.52 points scored out of the possible four.
As for the child occupant protection, the frontal dynamic saw this three-row SUV score 15.70 points out of 16, while the side dynamic test saw 7.62 points scored out of the possible eight. The restraint installation score reads 11.43 points out of 12, while the on-board safety features score is capped at eight out of 13 points.
However, the ANCAP does not recommend the installation of child restraints in the third-row seat of the Tiggo 8 Pro Max simply because the SUV did not come with top-tether anchors for the third-row seats.
Moving on to the safety assistance systems, the Tiggo 8 Pro Max managed to score a full point for seat belt reminders, 1.65 points out of two for driver monitoring, and 2.45 points out of three for the speed assistance system. These are followed by the AEB-related tests, whereby the SUV scored 3.60 points out of four for car-to-car AEB, 3.08 points out of four for junction and crossing AEB, 0.75 points out of one for head-on AEB, and a full three points for lane support systems.
Malaysian-spec, locally-assembled Chery Tiggo 8 Pro
Closer to home, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro has been on sale in Malaysia for almost a year now, with said three-row SUV being locally-assembled (CKD) at the Inokom Kulim production facility. Unlike the Aussie-spec Tiggo 8 Pro Max, the Malaysian-bound Tiggo 8 Pro comes with a front-wheel drive (FWD) setup instead of an all-wheel drive (AWD) one, while the rest of the equipment, like the 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbo petrol mill, is the same for both variants.
