Tesla Is Expected To Continue Investments In Selangor - MB Amirudin Shari
-(1)-full.jpg)
According to Berita Harian, Selangor MB Amirudin Shari has expressed his support for Tesla's plans to build a research and development centre. Amirudin stated that he understands the carmaker intends to increase the number of charging stations in Malaysia and establish a factory in the future as it seeks to expand its business in Asia.
“They have already opened their headquarters in Selangor. Maybe they will want to open a service centre after this because they want to expand their markets in Asia. If they have any R&D needs we welcome them.
“We have a lot more investments and we are now entering into semiconductors, with a site in Sepang and a number of other locations that we have focused on preparing for semiconductor manufacturing or any other industries,” he said.
For the record, Tesla established its Malaysian headquarters in Cyberjaya last year, where they hired over 30 locals and continue to hire as the company grows, with a commitment to hiring at least 80% Malaysians.
The electric carmaker has exceeded its target by installing 52 units of instant chargers with a capacity of more than 180 kW in various locations throughout the Klang Valley, Johor, Melaka, Penang, and Pahang.

Thai online news portal, The Nation recently reported that Tesla is abandoning its plan to establish factories in Thailand and Malaysia, among other countries in Southeast Asia.
Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Datuk Seri Zafrul however said that the news came from anonymous sources rather than from MITI or Tesla itself.
