The government is now working on legislation that would penalize men for entering pink coaches on public transportation that are designated for female passengers.

According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and commuter service providers Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) have been directed to step up their surveillance of women-only coaches. He said that in order to prevent men from intruding on women's coaches, auxiliary police would be stationed at railway and MRT stations more frequently. If necessary, action would be taken in this regard. “In terms of regulations, we are in the process of drafting fines that can be imposed. At present, there is no rule allowing us to fine men who disregard designated women’s coaches,” Loke said during a press conference on Wednesday.

Loke emphasized that in order to ensure the safety of female passengers on public transportation, men should show consideration for the specifically designated female coaches.
Numerous incidents of strangers harassing female commuters have come to light over the years. More than one-third of women may have experienced sexual harassment or other sexual offenses while traveling by train, according to recent data released by the British Transport Police (BTP).

The majority of sexual offenses occur in crowded train cars during the evening rush hour, which is from 5-7 p.m., the survey says.
