Hyundai Motor Company and General Motors (GM) have inked a strategic agreement to explore possible cooperation in a number of important sectors.

Both firms hope to lower costs and speed up supply of a wider range of automobiles and technology to consumers by utilising their complementary strengths.

Key areas of potential collaboration include:

  • Co-development production of passenger and commercial vehicles.
  • Advancements in internal combustion engines and clean-energy technologies, including electric and hydrogen power.
  • Joint sourcing efforts for materials like battery raw materials and steel.

GM’s CEO Mary Barra and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung signed the agreement. The collaboration is viewed by both executives as a chance to enhance vehicle development, cut expenses and introduce more competitive goods to the market faster.

“Hyundai and GM complement each other's advantages. Together, we can unleash more creativity and scale while delivering cars to customers more quickly," stated Barra.

"This partnership will enhance our competitiveness in key markets and vehicle segments while delivering cost efficiencies and stronger customer value through our combined expertise," Chung said in response to this opinion.

After this non-binding Memorandum of Understanding is signed, both businesses will need to evaluate the potential and move further with formal, binding agreements.
