inDrive In Talks With MoT On Price Bidding System
Russian-owned e-hailing app inDrive is in discussions with the local government about its passenger price bidding system, NST has reported.
The company has sent a formal letter to the Ministry of Transport regarding the matter, according to Govin Kumaar Panirsheeluam, inDrive's business development lead for Malaysia, and is awaiting a response.
Govin said the business will make sure the drivers follow the law and that all bidding takes place solely inside the app's ecosystem. These talks with the authorities are essential to guarantee inDrive's smooth integration into the Malaysian transport ecosystem, as the company's price bidding model sets it apart from other e-hailing platforms. "This ties with our mission as well, in creating a fair marketplace for drivers as well as the passengers," he added. Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated in May of last year that the ministry had never approved a price bidding system for e-hailing operators, despite the fact that the popularity of a bidding system on e-hailing apps is increasing.
InDrive has made significant progress since joining the Malaysian market, quickly expanding into major cities and urban areas such as Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor Bahru.
The company has also hit some impressive milestones, such as a 21% increase in active users and a 20% increase in rides in the first half of 2024, according to Natalia Makarenko, director of InDrive marketing for the APAC region.
