JPJ Adds Two New VEP RFID Points, Boosting Capacity By 5-Folds
The Transportation Ministry, via JPJ, announced that it will open two additional installation locations in Johor Bahru in response to reports of strong demand and long queues for the VEP RFID tag.
“Effort to improve the VEP RFID (radio frequency identification) tag registration process will be implemented by creating two additional facility locations to facilitate Singapore vehicle owners to install the VEP RFID tag,” said the statement.
The two new centers will open this Sunday, September 22, and have a capacity to process 800 and 400 vehicles per day, respectively. They are situated at the Johor JPJ HQ in Taman Daya and the Akademi Pengangkutan Jalan Wilayah Selatan at Jalan Kebun Teh Lama, Larkin.

It also stated that the new centers will increase the number of tag installations to 1,500 per day. The statement, however, did not specify whether vehicle owners could pick up their VEPs at the new centers.
Currently, the sole VEP RFID tag installation point at the VEP Collection Center (VCC) in Danga Bay has a capacity of 300 cars per day.
JPJ also urged all foreign vehicle owners to register, install, and activate their RFID VEP tags right away to avoid future difficulties entering and exiting Malaysia. The statement directed readers to the JPJ's website for registration and additional information.
In May, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that all foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia via land from Singapore would be required to use VEPs beginning October 1.
VEP is enforced under subsection 66H of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), which makes it illegal to drive a foreign-registered vehicle without a permit before entering or while in Malaysia. Motorists who fail to do so may face a fine of up to RM2,000 or imprisonment for up to six months.
