The facelifted Mitsubishi Xpander arrives in two variants for our market, with prices starting from RM99,980.

Following several teasers and initial previews, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has finally unveiled the full lineup for the much-anticipated 2024 Mitsubishi Xpander facelift. Unlike its predecessor, this upgraded and facelifted MPV will be offered in two variants, namely the baseline Xpander and the range-topping Xpander Plus variant previewed prior.

For the facelift treatment, the Xpander MPV gains several key visual upgrades, with the most prominent one being its revised front face, which now features a new Dynamic Shield grille design and T-shaped LED projector headlights.

At the rear, the facelift treatment sees the new Xpander gaining new T-shaped LED taillights, a redesigned rear bumper, a roof-mounted spoiler, and 17-inch blade-style alloy wheels—the latter two reserved for the top-spec Plus variant only. Besides the two aforementioned items, the Plus variant is also differentiated by the silver trim present on its bumpers and side skirts, whereas the basic variant gets black-hued ones instead.

Elsewhere, both variants of the Xpander facelift are offered with four colourways, namely Diamond Black, Graphite Gray, Red Metallic, and Quartz White Pearl—the latter offered with an add-on cost of RM300.

The facelift update continues as we get inside the Xpander facelift, with the centrepiece being its new front dash design that is now cladded in faux brown leather trims plus a new 9-inch infotainment display that now supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a 360-degree camera view (Plus variant only).

Besides the revised front dash, the facelifted Xpander also benefits from a new digital A/C panel, a redesigned steering wheel, multiple USB charging ports, an electronic parking brake (EPB) with auto hold function, as well as a dedicated control panel for the rear A/C blowers. Additionally, the Plus variant gets an extra heap of equipment in the form of a wireless charging pad, front and rear digital video recorder (DVR), leatherette seat upholstery, and metal scuff plates for its door sills.

Being one of the best-selling compact MPVs in our market, the facelift Xpander continues to feature the same 7-seater layout spread across three rows in a 2-3-2 formation as its predecessor. The third row seats can be flat-folded to expand its cargo space to 495 litres, while folding down the mid-row seats will further expand the boot space to 837 litres.

The facelifted Xpander continues to be powered by the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre MIVEC engine.

Predictably, the facelifted Xpander sees no mechanical changes taking place, with the MPV still powered by the same 1.5-litre 4-cyl nat-asp MIVEC engine as its predecessor, delivering 105 PS and 141 NM to its front wheels (FWD) via a 4-speed automatic transmission. The latter contradicts the facelifted Xpander models sold in other ASEAN markets, where they come with a new CVT automatic gearbox instead.

Also unchanged are the safety features, as the facelifted Xpander continues to come with two airbags, standard passive safety features like traction (TCS) and stability (VSC) controls, and ABS, while no ADAS function was present in this compact family MPV.

And just like its predecessor, the 2024 Mitsubishi Xpander facelift is still made in MMM’s Pekan factory, with prices starting at RM99,980 for the baseline Xpander variant, while the top-spec Xpander Plus gets a higher price tag of RM109,980. For reference, the pre-facelift Xpander was retailed at RM100,980, which is slightly more expensive than the baseline facelift model.

On top of the standard 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, the first 500 customers who book the facelifted Xpander via MMM’s new online showroom will be entitled to a complimentary Naturehike Camping Wagon worth RM400.

So folks, what do you think of the new facelifted Mitsubishi Xpander? Can this facelifted version retain its position as the best-selling non-national MPV in our market? As always, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
