The Maxus eTerron 9 breaks cover as SAIC’s new EV pick-up truck with up to 435 HP and 430 KM of range.

Chinese automotive conglomerate SAIC Motor has expanded its off-road product lineup today by unveiling its new all-electric pick-up model under its Maxus sub-brand, known as the Maxus eTerron 9. This mid-to-large pick-up truck will replace the ongoing Maxus T90EV, which is one of the first EV pick-up trucks to penetrate the European market.

Unlike its predecessor, the new eTerron 9 will feature an all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain setup featuring two electric motors that combine to deliver a total system output of 435 HP, although torque figures are yet to be announced by the automaker. Juicing these motors is a sizable 102-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that supplies the EV truck with up to 430 KM of EV range.

Said battery pack supports DCFC at up to 115 kW, which allows the truck to be charged from 20-80% in about 40 minutes. Typical of any EV nowadays, the eTerron 9 also offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities that enable the truck to power any external power devices.

Unlike your typical workhorses, the eTerron 9 EV truck comes with an air suspension system.

What sets the eTerron 9 apart from other more ‘utilitarian’ pick-up trucks is the presence of an air suspension system, allowing drivers to adjust the ride height of the truck automatically plus providing better ride comfort—something that pick-up trucks aren’t known for. Additionally, the active suspension system also enables the truck’s cargo flatbed to be lowered at 60 MM when stationary, making it easier to load and unload heavy or big items from the truck.

In terms of design, the new eTerron 9 retains the traditional boxy pick-up truck design instead of going on a radical yet borderline silly design route like the Tesla Cybertruck. Key design features present here include its grille-less front face that features C-shaped LED headlights a la Ford Ranger and large Maxus lettering, a metal skid plate that is integrated into its front bumper, plastic underbody cladding, built-in side steps, and many more.

The Maxus eTerron 9 measures slightly bigger than the average midsize pick-up trucks sold in our market.

As we mentioned earlier, Maxus positions the new eTerron 9 as its mid-to-large pick-up truck model, and this reflects in its overall dimensions. Measuring 5,500 MM long, 2,005 MM wide, 1,860 MM tall, and a 3,300 MM wheelbase, the eTerron 9 is slightly bigger than the typical mid-size trucks sold on our market, such as the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux, but not as big as full-size trucks like the Rivian R1T or the Ford F150.

Thanks to its slightly bulkier facade, the eTerron 9 boasts a larger flatbed space than other midsize trucks, with said compartment capable of supporting up to 620 KG of loads while its towing capacity is capped at an impressive 3500 KG. In case you need extra space, the rear cab bulkhead of the eTerron 9 can be dropped down to expand the flatbed space, while a 236-litre ‘frunk’ (front trunk) is also available for usage.

Order books for the new SAIC Maxus eTerron 9 are slated to be opened in selected international markets, such as the UK, later in Oct this year, with deliveries commencing in early 2025. Fancy seeing this all-electric truck making its way into our market?
