MLFF: Malaysia To Study And Emulate Successful Foreign Model
Works Minister YB Alexander Nanta Linggi recently highlighted on his social media of Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to implement the Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) toll collection system as part of the country’s Intelligent Transport System (ITS). While often seen as a solution to ease highway congestion, he acknowledged that adopting such a system is complex.
During his visit to the 30th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in Dubai, hosted by the UAE's Roads and Transport Authority, YB Nanta engaged in discussions with senior management from Salik Company PJSC (Salik). The discussions focused on sharing knowledge related to operations, enforcement, and technology. Salik has successfully implemented the MLFF system using RFID technology since 2007.
He also mentioned that during his visit, the delegation also observed Salik’s toll gantries in action, reinforcing Malaysia’s commitment to modernising its toll collection systems. This effort aligns with the government’s MYJalan program, which aims to ensure sustainable highway infrastructure and improve the safety of road users.
YB Nanta underlined that traditional toll plazas would no longer be necessary as Malaysia transitions to a gantry-free toll collection system. Vehicles will soon be able to pass through without stopping thanks to the MLFF system, which uses RFID technology. This will greatly reduce traffic and improve travel efficiency.
He also noted that the government is studying successful models from countries like the UAE to tailor the system to Malaysia’s needs. By modernising road infrastructure and incorporating advanced technologies, Malaysia aims to build a smarter, more sustainable transportation network.
