Report: Tata-based And India-made JLR Model Coming Soon

We could soon see a new Jaguar Land rover (JLR) model based on a new platform created by parent firm Tata Motors and built in the latter's base in India.
It appears that Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is set to develop a new model based on a new platform created by parent firm Tata Motors, reports UK title Autocar.
Said new model is poised to launch next year, and the platform will also underpin a new “high-end” Tata model, confirmed Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Group. Both creations are set to be manufactured through an all-new factory in India, with plans to export both to other markets overseas as well.
“We’re able to bring the cost attitude of Tata Motors with the design sophistication of JLR,” said Chandrasekaran in a recent chat with Autocar’s India branch. “Then you get the benefit occurring for both in two different ways and the volumes go up, which justifies the investment that goes into the platform,” continued the exec further.

For now, it remains unclear if this new model will wear a Land Rover or Range Rover badge, and it seems unlikely to be electrified. The latter suggests perhaps it will marketed primarily in Asia.
He also added that the firm has “bigger aspirations” for both JLR and Tata Motors, but stopped short of confirming which badge the new JLR model would wear, or what powers it. Regarding the latter, an electrified powertrain doesn’t seem likely for now given India’s higher dependency on combustion power.
This also likely suggests that this new creation will be sold exclusively in Asian markets. Effectively, a strong business case is needed before exports to regions where JLR pushes electrification is considered.
Presently, JLR already builds cars in India after establishing a factory in Pune back in 2011. Said facility locally assembles (CKD) Land Rover and Range Rover models for the domestic Indian market.
