BYD Ready To Put In-House Smart Driving algorithms Into Use
Chinese automaker BYD is getting ready to start mass producing its own smart driving algorithms as early as November. For the auto giant, this would be a big step because BYD's own algorithms will power the company's smart driving platform, known as DiPilot.
The automaker, which has relied on outside vendors to provide its sophisticated driver-assistance systems, will begin implementing its internally developed smart driving algorithms on certain models as early as next month, marking a noteworthy accomplishment for the business.
DiPilot will be available in different configurations based on the processing power that is available, according to CNEV. Nvidia's Drive Orin N chip and Horizon Robotics' Journey 5 chip will be used in the DiPilot 100, which is intended for systems with 100 TOPS (trillion operations per second) or less. The Nvidia Orin X chip, which offers up to 508 TOPS of processing power, will be used by the DiPilot 300 and DiPilot 600 for more powerful cars.
Working concurrently with Nvidia, Horizon Robotics, and Black Sesame Technologies, BYD demonstrates its bold efforts to steer its technological future and take on major players like Tesla, which has long promoted its Autopilot and Fully Self-Driving systems.
According to reports, BYD is looking into developing its own smart driving chip, which would begin with low-to-medium positioning and go beyond algorithms. An ambitious goal, this vertical integration strategy will undoubtedly increase BYD's control over its technology stack and possibly lessen its dependency on outside suppliers. It may also have a big impact on the mass market's adoption of cutting-edge driver-assistance features.
