Elon Musk’s Tesla Unveils Robotaxi And Robovan At AI Event "We, Robot"
Tesla’s latest event, "We, Robot," held at Warner Bros Studios in Burbank, California, showcased the much-anticipated robotaxi. This comes six months after Elon Musk announced that the company planned to launch one.
Musk arrived on stage in a Cybercab with no steering wheels or pedals, announcing that "there's 20 more" where it came from.
He discussed how our current modes of transportation "suck" and how cars are always on standby. He suggested that an autonomous vehicle could be used more frequently. "With autonomy, you get your time back... "Autonomous cars are going to be 10 times safer."
The robotaxi, which served as a critical component of the company's future growth strategy, is a purpose-built autonomous vehicle with futuristic design, including doors that open upward like butterfly wings and a small cabin with only enough space for two passengers.
There was no steering wheel or pedals, nor was there a plug; Musk claimed the vehicle used inductive charging to regain power wirelessly.
The CEO predicted that production will begin before 2027 and that the cost of autonomous transportation will be so low as to be on par with public transportation. He eventually stated that the robotaxi's running costs would be 20 cents per mile, or 30 to 40 cents including taxes.
Along with that, Musk revealed that Tesla plans to sell the Cybercab for less than $30,000 and that the Model 3 and Model Y will initially be able to use fully autonomous, unsupervised Full Sell Driving in California and Texas.

Tesla provided additional information in a post on X, announcing that the Robotaxi service would have no driver fee and that fully self-driving vehicles would use cameras alone, rather than radar or lidar equipment.
The company also stated that customers could call the Robotaxi once and use it for as long as they needed it, whether for a short trip or a full day.

Tesla also unveiled the Robovan, a large shuttle van that Musk claims can accommodate up to 20 passengers.
Musk ended the presentation by displaying a parade of Tesla's humanoid Optimus robots, which he claims can teach your children, mow your lawn, and even be your friend. The Optimus robots will be priced between $20,000 and $30,000.
