EV as official car for ASEAN Leaders Event under Malaysian Chairmanship. says PM Anwar
According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when Malaysia chairs ASEAN next year, EVs will be the official mode of transportation for ASEAN leaders attending state functions.
The government would therefore work to acquire as many EVs as it could. According to Anwar, the choice to use EVs was made because they were more affordable than other types of cars, even though they might be smaller.

“We will inform all ASEAN leaders that we want to provide larger cars but this is the biggest EV available. Please use it and be satisfied,” he said.
Anwar claims that the government will only provide EV vehicles for heads of state, ministers, and officials in order to promote sustainability and the energy transition, in contrast to what the cabinet recently did, which involved giving heads of states ICE cars.
