Launched: BYD M6 EV MPV – 2 Variants, 7-Seat Only, From RM109,800

The BYD M6 officially launched earlier today with two variants priced from RM109,800.
As expected, BYD Sime Darby Motors (BYD SD Motors) officially launched its fourth new offering for the local market earlier today in the form of the new BYD M6 EV MPV. The model arrives in Malaysia following stellar debuts in neighbouring Thailand and Indonesia earlier this year.
Unlike in Indonesia and Thailand, Malaysia-bound versions of the BYD M6 will come solely in 7-seat layout. However, in typical BYD fashion, two variants will be available, the key differentiator here being their respective battery sizes, power outputs and, subsequently, range.

For the Malaysian market, the BYD M6 lands solely with a 7-seat layout.
As a refresher, the BYD M6 is essentially a reskinned version of the Chinese NEV-making giant’s second-generation e6. It consists of a base Standard Range (SR) variant that packs a 55.4 kWH iteration of the BYD’s ‘Blade’ LFP-type battery pack, whilst a higher-specced Extended Range (ER) variant slots above which and adopts a larger 71.8 kWh ‘Blade’ LFP battery pack instead.
In the base SR variant, its front-mounted e-motor drives the front wheels with 161 HP and 310 NM, thus allowing 0-100 KM/H dashes in 10.1 secs plus a claimed NEDC-rated range of 420 KM. The higher-end ER guise boasts a higher specific output of 201 HP instead, quicker century sprint time of 8.6 secs, as well as a longer NEDC-rated claimed range of 530 KM.

The Standard Range variant gets smaller 55.4 kWh Blade LFP battery pack whilst the Extended Range gains a larger 71.8 kWh capacity instead. The latter also boasts a higher DC charging cap of 115 kW and longer NEDC-rated 530 KM range.
With the smaller battery, the base SR variant has a capped DC fast-charging input of 89 kW, whereas the ER variant benefits with a higher 115 kW cap instead, the latter allowing 10-80% re-charges in 40 minutes. As for regular AC charging, all variants are limited to just 7 kW – a typical trait amongst many BYD models like the Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal.
With its exterior design, the BYD M6 has all the usual touches as seen in other BYD models, namely its sleek silhouette, full-LED forward and aft lighting, as well as distinct 17-inch alloy wheels. In terms of colourways, the M6 sees four exterior paintjob options available – Crystal White, Ink Stone Blue, Cosmos Black and Harbour Grey.

The same sentiment applies on board with the M6’s cabin design, amenities present, and level of tech. Key highlights include BYD’s signature 12.8-inch rotating central touchscreen offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as an optional karaoke function – one of many in a vast range of optional accessories available.
Other amenities present include multiple charging ports, NFC Digital Key function, cavernous standard boot space of 180/580 litres that’s also expandable, as well as a built-in Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) function that also sees each of its sockets primed with overload protection.

There's a standard boot space of 180 litres (with third row seats up) or 580 litres (third row seats folded) available in the M6.
Typical of BYD, both basic and advanced safety is covered well in the M6 as well, the former being evident through the presence of ABS, stability (ESC) and traction (TCS) control suites, 360-degree parking view monitor, electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, and six airbags.
As for advanced driver assistance (ADAS) functions, the M6 gets a full package featuring Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Front and Rear Collision Warning (FCW & RCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), and Lane Departure Assist (LDA).

Crucially, the M6 also comes with built-in V2L capability.
Open for bookings at all authorised BYD showrooms and dealerships nationwide now, the new BYD M6 EV MPV is tagged at RM109,800 in base SR form, and at RM123,800 in higher-specced ER guise. As usual, an 8-year or 160,000 KM EV battery warranty, an 8-year or 150,000 KM drive unit warranty, as well as a 6-year or 150,000 KM base vehicle warranty, are all included in said prices.
In conjunction with today’s official launch, the first 300 bookings of the BYD M6 ER variant benefit with a complimentary home charger. Besides that, the first 100 customers to book any variant of the M6 at the BYD sales carnival happening at Dataran Karnival Shah Alam this week will receive RM800 worth of complimentary charging credits.
