Honda Motocompacto e-Scooter Is Coming to KLIMS 2024

You can check out the Honda Motocompacto foldable electric scooter at the upcoming KLIMS 2024 at MITEC, KL.
Aside from the new Prelude hybrid concept, Honda Malaysia is also poised to unveil yet another all-electric product from its portfolio at the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024. Before you get excited, no, it’s not going to be a new EV car, as the automaker instead will showcase its new Honda Motocompacto foldable electric scooter alongside the new Prelude concept.

Unveiled globally back in 2023, the new Motocompacto is essentially a 21st-century version of the iconic Honda Motocompo from the 1980s, which was a 50-CC folding scooter designed to fit inside your typical Honda car’s boot. Unlike the original Motocompo, the new Motocompacto is fully electric, although it features the same foldable design concept that allows drivers to store them inside their Honda’s boot with relative ease.

When folded, the Motocompacto measures 742 MM long, 536 MM tall, 94 MM wide, and weighs 18.7 KG. Once it is fully assembled, the Motocompacto has a seat height of 622 MM, making it quite accessible for both adults and kids alike. In case you think the Motocompacto is not sturdy, the whole construction of the e-scooter is made from aluminium, while riders also get familiar scooter amenities like a simple metre cluster on the handlebar, steel footrests, a small seat, as well as LED lights on both ends.

Powering the Motocompacto is a single, front-mounted electric motor that produces 16 NM, which is enough for a 24 KM/H V-Max in this teeny-tiny e-scooter. Juiced by an equally small 6.8 Ah battery, range is capped at only 20 KM for this foldable e-scooter, which Honda reckons is enough for one's personal mobility needs. Not to forget, said battery takes about 3.5 hours for it to be fully charged.
The Honda Motocompacto currently retails at $995 (RM4,415) in the US, although visitors to the KLIMS 2024 can try it for free during the show. Should the Motocompacto garner enough traction and interest among the crowds, perhaps it won’t be too far-fetched to see Honda Malaysia offering this quirky e-scooter into our market as part of their official accessories and merchandise list, or perhaps alongside its long-awaited first EV model for the ASEAN market.
