Fadillah - Malaysia Charts Path to Sustainable Mobility

The 10th Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS 2024) has become a landmark platform for unveiling Malaysia’s bold vision for the future of transportation. Themed “Beyond Mobility,” this year’s event showcases the nation’s journey toward greener, smarter, and more inclusive mobility solutions, underpinned by innovation and sustainability.

Speaking at the launch of KLIMS 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof highlighted transportation’s significant role in greenhouse gas emissions and emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to mitigating its environmental impact. Key measures include full exemptions on import, excise duties, and sales tax for electric vehicles (EVs), aimed at spurring local EV adoption and industry growth.

A cornerstone of this effort is the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which focuses on renewable energy solutions to green the transportation sector. In addition, Malaysia is strengthening its position as a regional leader through initiatives such as the ASEAN Power Grid, aligning with the broader vision of a sustainable energy future.
Investments in infrastructure are equally ambitious, with RM4.95 billion allocated to the energy and water transformation agenda under PETRA and plans for 3,171 EV charging stations nationwide. These initiatives complement the automotive sector’s vital role in the economy, contributing 4% to GDP and employing over 700,000 Malaysians.

KLIMS 2024 is more than just a showcase; it serves as a collaborative platform for policymakers, industry leaders, and consumers to drive the nation’s mobility transformation. Malaysia’s goal is to become a regional hub for EV production and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Fadillah also expressed gratitude to Transport Minister YB Tuan Anthony Loke, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) President Mohd Shamsor Mohd Zain and the KLIMS 2024 Organizing Committee for their dedication to advancing Malaysia’s automotive and energy sectors.
As KLIMS 2024 sets the stage for the future, Malaysia stands poised to push the boundaries of innovation and sustainability, moving Beyond Mobility.
