At long last, the Proton e.MAS 7 EV crossover was officially launched earlier today in MITEC, KL with a starting price as low as RM105,800 (with early bird rebate).
At long last, the Proton e.MAS 7, the first electric vehicle (EV) offering to bear the Proton badge, was officially launched earlier today in MITEC, Kuala Lumpur.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Transport Minister YB Anthony Loke, MITI Minister Tengky Zafrul Aziz, Proton Chairman Tan Sri Syed Faisal Albar, CEO Dr Li Chunrong and Deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah, as well as Geely Auto Group CEO Jerry Gan Jiayue, were all present to launch the model today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially launched the e.MAS 7 alongside several other ministers as well as top-tier execs from both Proton and Geely who were present today.
As detailed prior, the e.MAS 7 is the right-hand-drive (RHD) twin to the Geely Galaxy E5. From the beginning, the national automaker adamantly notes that it co-developed the model with Geely via its newly established R&D hub in Hangzhou Bay, China. The automaker’s PRO-NET arm also emphasised on its local development efforts of the e.MAS 7 ahead of today’s launch.
As expected, the e.MAS 7 comes in two variants – base ‘Prime’ and higher-end ‘Premium’ guises. Besides varying degree of equipment and amenities, both variants are also set apart by their respective battery capacities and – subsequently – their claimed maximum ranges.
As Proton claims, the e.MAS 7 is the right-hand-drive (RHD) twin of the Galaxy E5 model that the national automaker 'co-develops' with partners Geely.
The first Proton-badged EV offering sees two variants available - a base 'Prime' and a higher-end 'Premium'.
We’ve detailed these differences at length prior. However, we’ll be brief for this report and remind you that the Prime packs a smaller 49.52 kWh iteration of Geely’s Aegis Short Blade Battery pack promising 345 KM of WLTP-rated range, whilst the Premium guise gets a larger 60.22 kWh pack promising 410 KM of WLTP-rated range instead.
As for charging, both variants share the ability to draw in 11 kW AC charging inputs, but only the Premium guise benefits with a 100 kW maximum DC fast-charging speed versus 80 kW in the Prime variant.
Compact 12-in-1 e-motor (left) boasts 214 HP and 320 NM, allowing for 0-100 KM/H dashes in 6.9 secs. 11 kW AC charging ability is shared across both variants, but only Premium guise benefits with 100 kW maximum DC fast-charging ability (right).
Under the hood, both variants share the same front-mounted compact 12-in-1 e-motor developed by Geely driving the front wheels with 214 HP and 320 NM. Altogether, this setup sees the e.MAS 7 able to despatch 0-100 KM/H sprints in just 6.9 secs and a reach a capped V-max of 175 KM/H.
Besides price, Proton also revealed the after-sales package plus a full range of perks for buyers to opt-in on with the e.MAS 7 from today's launch.
Already opened for bookings since late Oct with an initial estimated starting price of RM120,000, final prices were also revealed today. Sans insurance, the base Prime variant now commands RM109,800 whilst the Premium guise is tagged at RM123,800.
Moreover, Proton also announced a special launch rebate worth RM4,000 for the first 3,000 customers. In turn, these early birds get to purchase the e.MAS 7 Prime at just RM105,800, and the e.MAS 7 Premium at RM119,800 (both excluding insurance costs).
Included in said prices is a 6-year, unlimited mileage base vehicle warranty plus a separate 8-year or 160,000 KM high voltage battery and components warranty.
As detailed prior, the e.MAS 7 packs a list of features and amenities primed aboard that make it one of the most high-tech, convenient and safest EV crossover offering in class.
That aside, Proton will also offer buyers a selection of added perks to choose from. Highlights include a complimentary 7 kW home wallbox charger worth RM1,500, complimentary V2L adaptor worth RM500, 5-year unlimited internet data plan worth RM1,800, and more.
You can get to know the Proton e.MAS 7 in greater detail through this past feature of ours. Given the tempting early bird rebate and launch perks, what say you folks? Are you charged up to switch to electric now with Proton? Share your take of the new Proton e.MAS 7 in the comments below…
