Geely Galaxy E5 Tour Arrived in Malaysia – Proton e.MAS 7 Tour Sets Off

The Geely Galaxy E5 Long Test Drive World Tour has arrived in Malaysia, as the Proton e.MAS 7 is about to kick off.
If you've noticed a surge of social media posts featuring sightings of the Geely Galaxy E5 from Penang to the Klang Valley, there's a good reason. These E5 EVs were part of the Geely Galaxy E5 Long Test Drive World Tour, where the convoy travelled all the way from Guiyang, China, to Malaysia, arriving at the Proton Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Subang Jaya yesterday.

In its journey across multiple Asian countries, including Laos and Thailand, the E5 convoy has covered a total distance of more than 3,700 KM, traversing through some difficult terrain and weather conditions, part of which was caused by the recent Typhoon Yagi.

Coincidentally, the arrival of the Galaxy E5 convoy also gave us Malaysians the first-time opportunity to size up the donor model for our nation’s first all-electric car, the Proton e.Mas 7. From the get-go, you’ll see that both models share many similarities in terms of design, but the Geely-badged counterpart does feature some interesting bits.

Besides the obvious Geely badges and branding, the E5 unit previewed here at the Proton COE appears to sport a pair of unique L-shaped LED DRLs at the front while riding on larger 19-inch wheels. While the camo-wrapped e.Mas 7 did come with the same L-shaped lighting unit, they appeared to not light up when the car was driven on the stage. Not to forget, the e.Mas 7 also rides on smaller 18-inch wheels.

More importantly, we also got a chance to check out the innards of the E5, where it features a pretty decent amount of luxury and tech amenities. Key highlights include its faux leather-wrapped seats, faux wood veneers and trims on the front dash, a sizable 15.4-inch infotainment display powered by Flyme Auto OS (no Android Auto or Apple CarPlay), a slim 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster a la smart #1, and a multi-speaker Flyme Sound audio system.

On top of its tech-laden interior, the E5 also boasts a high degree of practicality, as it features no less than 33 storage spaces, while its rear boot space comes with a 51-litre underfloor compartment that should compensate for the absence of a frunk on this EV SUV.

The lack of a frunk is partly due to the E5’s powertrain setup, as all variants are offered with the same single, front-mounted (FWD) e-motor setup rated at 218 PS (160 kW) and 320 NM, which is good enough for a century sprint time of 6.9 seconds. The biggest selling point for the E5 is the new Geely Aegis ‘short-blade’ lithium iron phosphate battery the car comes with, which is available in either 49.52-kWh or 60.22-kWh capacities.
The latter unit grants the E5 with up to 530 KM of CLTC range, which can be filled up from 30-80% in about 20 minutes, according to Geely.

Now that the E5 has concluded its long-distance tour in Malaysia, the baton has been passed to the Proton e.Mas 7, which will embark on its own nationwide tour starting this Oct, with the first leg covering the southern peninsula Malaysia states such as Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor. Besides those, the e.Mas 7 will also make its appearance in all Malaysian states, including Sabah and Sarawak, where it is slated to cover over 2,000 KM of distance in the process.
