The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) is making significant progress, with infrastructure works now 95% complete as of last November.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah reported that the installation of key system components—such as rolling stock, signaling, power supply, distribution, and telecommunications—commenced earlier this month.
So far, the government has allotted RM2.5 million for civil infrastructure on the Malaysian side of the RTS project, which is part of a bigger RM5.2 billion budget set out for the overall program in Malaysia.
Hasbi further stated that the RTS Link is designed to carry up to 100,000 passengers per day, with trains running at ideal intervals of 3.6 minutes during peak hours.
He also anticipates that the service would serve between 30,000 to 40,000 people each day in its first year of operation, which will commence on December 31, 2026.
Hasbi further noted that Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd (MRTS), which serves as InfraCo Malaysia, has given RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO), the authorised service operator at the Wadi Hana Depot, early access to begin trackwork installation.
