Selangor JPJ: Body Cams Will Boost Transparency

Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement officers in Selangor have begun using body-worn cameras (BWC) to strengthen transparency, accountability and integrity during enforcement operations.
In a statement, Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan said officers have been equipped with the cameras since Dec 15. The move is aimed at ensuring greater clarity and professionalism during roadside checks and enforcement activities.

Azrin explained that both visual and audio recordings captured by the BWCs can be used as valid supporting evidence. He added that the devices also help protect officers from misunderstandings, unfounded accusations or harassment while performing their duties.
He was speaking to the media during a press conference after an Integrated Special Operation at the Sungai Ramal Toll Plaza in Kajang recently. The operation was part of the ongoing “Ops Perang Lebih Muatan” campaign to combat vehicle overloading in the state.

Since the start of the operation, Selangor JPJ has seized 22 overloaded vehicles and issued a total of 39,555 notices for various offences. These include cases involving expired motor vehicle licences, driving without a valid licence, lack of insurance, absence of vocational licences and overloading violations.
Azrin said the enforcement efforts are intended not only to take action, but also to educate commercial vehicle operators and owners on complying with technical specifications, weight limits and road safety standards for the benefit of all road users.
He stressed that firm action will continue to be taken without exception against any party found breaching the law.
Members of the public can channel traffic-related complaints to ym.vog.jpj@kifartnauda or submit them via the e-Aduan@JPJ platform, along with their details and relevant information on the complaint.
