Continuous heavy downpour on Sunday (Jan 5) has resulted in a landslide in Cameron Highlands, and this has blocked the Jalan Besar Kampung Raja main road stretch near the Blue Valley junction today (Monday, Jan 6).
According to The Star, authorities were informed of the landslide at 3:15AM, prompting the deployment of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) to the affected site.
In a statement issued by the the district disaster management secretariat, both directions of the main route from SImpang Pulai/Lojing to Cameron Highlands are now blocked. Alternative routes to Cameron Highlands are available via the Sungai Koyan route in Lipis and Tapah road.
Additionally, debris cleaning efforts are reportedly still underway and ongoing at the site of the landslide. For now, there are no reports yet of the landslide causing any injuries or harm to victims or homes in the area.
We’ll have more once authorities issue more details of the debris cleaning effort and when this main road is set to reopen to traffic again.
