Elderly Man Hurt After Surviving Plunge In Car From The Third Floor

Bernama reported yesterday that an elderly man was injured and subsequently hospitalised after surviving a harrowing plunge in his car from the third floor of a parking structure.
The incident reportedly occurred in the Pangsapuri Sri Malaysia building in Sungai Besi yesterday afternoon (Monday) circa 2:45 PM. The incident was caused by the unnamed elderly driver as he accidentally stepped on the accelerator while parking his Proton Saga.
Cheras District police chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan confirmed the incident, adding in a statement issued that he escaped with minor injuries and was sent to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) for further treatment.
“The area has been closed for immediate repairs by the building management,” continued ACP Aidil further via the statement mentioned. Video of the incident has since gone viral on social media showing the aftermath of the incident plus the man’s Saga sitting on its roof.
This incident is a classic case of what some carmakers describe as “pedal misoperation”. In fact, the scenario has become common enough of late, prompting some carmakers to equip select models with a feature known as “Pedal Misoperation Control - PMC”.
National automaker Perodua, as well as Toyota, offers this feature in a handful of their respective models. For the former, it comes as a standard feature though the Perodua Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) suite, which also includes a few other active driving and safety assistances.
