The Exeed VX C-DM PHEV has been unveiled in China ahead of its debut, featuring up to 1,300 KM of combined range.

Chery’s Exeed has unveiled the first few images of its new flagship plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV, the Exeed VX C-DM. Known as the Exeed Lanyue C-DM in its native China, this three-row PHEV SUV is set to make its official market entry later in March this year.

As its name suggests, the VX C-DM is based on Exeed’s current flagship SUV, the VX. Unlike its full ICE twin, it adopts Chery’s proprietary PHEV powertrain setup comprising a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine rated at 154 HP, two electric motors, and a sizable 34.46-kWh ternary lithium battery pack. Combined, this whole PHEV setup is capable of delivering up to 610 HP, allowing this mid-to-large SUV to accelerate from 0-100 KM/H in just five seconds.

What’s more impressive about this PHEV setup is its maximum range capabilities, with Exeed claiming it can garner the VX C-DM with up to 143 KM of pure electric range, at least according to the more lenient CLTC standards. Together with the engine, the PHEV setup is capable of delivering up to 1,300 KM of combined range, with a fuel consumption of only 1.5 litre per 100 KM.

Despite harbouring an electrified powertrain setup, the VX C-DM still underpins the same M3X platform as the standard VX, where it also comes standard with Exeed’s proprietary all-wheel drive (AWD) system.

In terms of design, the VX C-DM looks pretty similar to the petrol-only VX, featuring the same boxy three-box SUV bodystyle with some minor modifications. Some notable differences include the T-shaped LED taillights, the new, multi-spoke wheels, and the badging on its tailgate.

Dimension-wise, the VX C-DM measures 5,010 MM long, 1,940 MM wide, 1,800 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 2,900 MM, thus making it 40 MM longer and 8 MM taller than its petrol-powered twin.

Similarly, the VX C-DM will also be offered in both six- and seven-seat configurations. While no official images were revealed for now, we can expect its innards to match those of its standard twin, which is primed with tons of amenities such as plush Nappa leather upholstery, an expansive triple-screen setup on the front dash, foldable second- and third-row seats, a large panoramic sunroof, and many more.

As of now, neither Chery nor Exeed has unveiled the indicative pricing for the upcoming Exeed VX C-DM. Nonetheless, we can expect this electrified SUV to be priced slightly higher than its full-ICE twin, which currently retails from CNY 193,900 (RM) onwards. Beyond the Great Wall nation, the petrol-powered VX is already on sale in key markets like the Middle East, so there’s a chance that the VX C-DM will also head to these markets in the near future.

Closer to home, rumours of the Exeed brand coming into Malaysia have been circulating around for months, with Chery Malaysia recently posting a recruitment notice via its official LinkedIn page for a new business division. Should this be true, then there’s a slight chance that this PHEV SUV will also make its landfall here.
