Grab Malaysia Inks MOUs With BYD Sime Motors, YGT, and P.UP

Local e-hailing giant Grab inked several memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreements with several key players form the local EV industry earlier this week.
Local e-hailing giants Grab Malaysia revealed signed several memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreements with several key players in the local electric vehicle (EV) market space earlier this week. The latter includes BYD Sime Motors, Yinson GreenTech (YGT), and Power-Up Tech (P.UP).
Present for MOU signing ceremony were YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI); Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations and Mobility, Grab Malaysia; Jeffrey Gan, MD, South East Asia, Sime Motors (BYD Sime Motors); Lim Chern Yuan, CEO of YGT; and Chin Kee Min, Group CEO of P.UP.

Included in the collective agreements signed was a supply of 10 BYD M6 EV MPVs from BYD Sime Motors, all leased and fleet managed by YGT with the support of P.UP.
According to Grab Malaysia, these collaborations are aimed towards promoting and boosting EV adoption amongst Grab driver-partners nationwide. Key to which stems from providing accessible EV solutions whilst lowering carbon emissions and contributing to Malaysia’s Green Economy.
Grab Malaysia notes high upfront costs stood as a significant barrier for driver-partners across the ASEAN region. In lieu of which, the partnerships it just forged seeks to accelerate the electrification of the local transportation sector by offering competitive rates and setting up accessible charging.

Launched in Oct last year, the BYD M6 EV MPV arguably stands as an ideal e-hailing vehicle thanks to its spacious cabin with seats across three-rows, and a decent NEDC-rated range of at least 420 KM (NEDC) too.
Firstly, the partnership with YGT sees the firm appointed as Grab’s EV leasing partner that, providing it with comprehensive EV leasing packages with competitive leasing rates, preferential charging rates, and vehicle maintenance for theses EVs.
Together with BYD Sime Motors, YGT are set to deliver 10 units of the BYD M6 EV MPV to Grab too. Additionally, YGT will also provide fleet management tools, provide insights on EV performance, as well as explore further possibilities of establishing EV charging stations at key locations.

Also inked was an agreement between Grab Malaysia and P.UP which sees the latter providing its on-demand mobile charging and EV rescue services to Grab partner-drivers with preferential rates.
Additionally, BYD Sime Motors will provide exclusive car pricing and specialised training sessions to equip Grab driver-partners with. P.UP, on the other hand, sees its on-demand mobile charging facilities and EV rescue services, as well as its preferential rates on offer to support Grab driver-partners switching to EVs.
Lastly, Grab Malaysia also emphasises that this initiative underscores the firm’s ongoing efforts to support national sustainability goals and build a cleaner, greener future.
