PDRM Receives Two Peugeot 408 For Evaluation

Images of a pair of Peugeot 408 crossover fastbacks decked out in Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) livery plus police lights and siren set made waves on social media this week. Both units were handed to the service for the purpose of evaluation, reports credible sources.
Specifically, the units supplied by Peugeot Malaysia (Stellantis Malaysia) were the Allure variants of the locally produced (CKD) Peugeot 408 model the firm launched back in April 2024. As a refresher, this entry-level guise to the 408 retails for RM146,055.

Typically, PDRM is poised to trial their newly received Peugeot 408 units over an undisclosed loan period – likely between three to six months – where the service will assess the crossover fastback’s suitability to perform duties as a patrol car.
Notably, PDRM’s acceptance of the Peugeot 408 units also marks a departure from its usual trend. Presently, the service fleets two generations of the Honda Civic sedan since 2016, and these replaced scores of ageing Proton sedans – Wira, Waja, Preve, and Inspira.

As a recap, all variant of the Peugeot 408 harness the French silver lion marque’s ‘PureTech’ 1.6-litre 4-cyl turbo petrol mill rated at 218 PS and 300 NM. Drive goes to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission, promising 0-100 KM/H dashes in 8.8 secs.
Apart from the livery plus flashing lights and siren set, no interior images were published, but it’s safe to assume that both these units will be loaded with a variety of specialised police gear and equipment – i.e. police radio, weapons hold, and more.

Do you folks reckon that the Peugeot 408 is a good fit for PDRM? (Image source: Threads)
Should this French crossover fastback meet assessment parameters, then we won’t be surprised to see the service fleet them in equally high numbers as their current fleet of Honda Civic sedans.
Well, what do you folks reckon? Is the made-in-Gurun Peugeot 408 a good fit for PDRM? What other vehicles should the service consider? Share your take in the comments below then…
