PLUS Highway Anticipates Over Two Million Vehicles For Hari Raya

Highway concessionaires Plus Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) are reportedly set to receive over two million vehicles on its highways during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive holidays, reports local daily New Straits Times (NST).
In fact, the firm’s COO Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi said the concessionaire expects up to 2.2 million vehicles on main PLUS highways such as the North-South Expressway (NSE). The exec adds that another 70,000 vehicles were expected on the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) as well.
“This is an increase of 20% compared to normal days,” said the exec further. He also highlighted that all major road works will be suspended from March 27 to April 7, and that only emergency works would be allowed instead, followed by the enforcement of certain restrictions on heavy vehicles.
Traffic is expected to be heavy on peak days, particularly just before the holidays from March 27 to March 29, and just after from April 4 to April 6. In light of which, Zakaria further notes that PLUS will activate 28 Smart Lanes in high-traffic locations to improve traffic flow at critical points.
“During Chinese New Year, road users said that Smart Lanes helped improve traffic flow by increasing road capacity, reducing congestion and improving travel time," adds Datuk Zakaria, citing feedback received by the concessionaire from said festive travel period earlier this year.
PLUS Highway users are also strictly prohibited from driving on the emergency lane at locations where the smart lane is not activated, reminds the exec further too.
