Auto Shanghai 2025: MG Cyber X Concept SUV Debuts

Arguably one of the most distinct and unmistakable debuts at Auto Shanghai 2025 was the MG Cyber X concept.
Arguably one of the most distinct new metal to debut at Auto Shanghai 2025 this week, the new MG Cyber X concept SUV is a surprising effort. We say this because unlike the common trend amongst Chinese makes, this concept doesn’t mirror established SUVs with similar rugged and square traits.
You won’t find any similarities with things like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class or Land Rover Defender in this MG concept. Moreover, it uniquely boasts a pair of pop-up all-LED headlights up front that sit atop of a full-width LED light bar – the latter being a rather typical design traits amongst many Chinese cars.

In terms of dimensions, it is rather surprising to note that the MG Cyber X concept has a shorter length body versus the MG S5 EV crossover that was previewed locally just recently.
Besides that, the front hood is stepped, there are lit-up MG badges front and aft, and there’s even some brightworks adorning the side mirrors and two-tone rolling stock. As for the rear, it’s a clean, minimalist affair to say the least complete with a full-width rear LED taillight bar.
Before you ask, the MG Cyber X reportedly sits some 4,300 MM long, thus making it slightly shorter than the MG S5 EV crossover that was recently previewed here in Malaysia earlier this month.

It is understood that the eventual production version of the MG Cyber X concept will underpin parent firm SAIC Motor's latest and highly module E3 platform.
Moreover, according to Autocar UK, the MG Cyber X concept is poised to underpin SAIC Motor's latest E3 platform, which is the Chinese automaker’s latest base that’s also very modular. From which, the reportedly firm plans to create everything from compact cars to sportscars using this base.
What’s notable about the E3 platform mentioned is its architecture’s incorporation of cell-to-body construction where the battery pack directly contributes to structural rigidity, which in turn should help to keep weight figures low too. It’s also MG’s first “fully-electric, system-level architecture” too.

Critically, the final production version of the MG Cyber X concept will form part of the brand's renewed effort to develop and release eight new models over the next two years.
Though the opportunity to take a peek inside this concept’s cabin eluded us, reputable sources report that the cockpit and connectivity were developed with smartphone maker Oppo.
Further details weren’t dished out, but we’re certain the eventual production version of this concept will be part of MG’s recently announced plans to develop and release up to eight new electric vehicle (EV) models over the next two years – large SUVs, saloons, and sportscar included.
