Model Y ‘Launch Series’ Sold Out – No Price Cut
Tesla Malaysia has officially “sold out” its special "Launch Series" Model Y units, and the edition has now been removed from the marque’s online configurator. With the Launch Series no longer on offer, consumers can now only opt for the regular Model Y lineup.
The extras that were included in the Launch Series, marking early adopters, are no longer available. These included a special tailgate badge, puddle light logo, side sill skid plates, and a "vegan leather" dash trim.
However, unlike other markets where the regular Model Y variants are priced lower than the Launch Series, Tesla Malaysia maintains the same pricing structure for now. This means the Model Y RWD still starts at RM195,450, while the Model Y Long Range AWD carries a price tag of RM242,450 before options and insurance.
Additionally, there is a key difference in performance. While the Launch Series Model Y Long Range AWD boasted a 0-100 KM/H sprint time of 4.3 seconds, the regular Long Range AWD is slightly slower by 0.5 seconds at 4.8 seconds.
That said, Tesla continues to offer the Model Y in two variants for Malaysia: the base RWD and the Long Range AWD. Performance figures remain unchanged for the RWD, with a claimed 0-100 KM/H time of 5.9 seconds and a WLTP-rated range of 466 KM. The Long Range AWD, while still delivering an impressive range of 551 KM, sees the slight reduction in acceleration time as mentioned earlier.
All Malaysia-bound Model Y units are sourced from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory in China, with local deliveries slated to begin later this month.
Customers can still opt for various add-ons, mirroring those available for the Model 3. These include four paint choices priced between RM5,000 and RM11,000, an optional white interior for RM5,000, and the 20-inch ‘Helix 2.0’ wheels for RM11,000.
Also available are Tesla’s driver-assistance packages, with Enhanced Autopilot priced at RM16,000 and Full Self-Driving (FSD) at RM32,000.
With the Launch Series now out of the picture, buyers who missed out on the initial batch can still enjoy many of its perks with the standard units - albeit at an unchanged price point for the time being.
