Changan Opens First Overseas NEV Plant in Thailand

Changan Automobile officially commenced production at its first overseas new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturing facility in Rayong, Thailand. The launch marks a major milestone with the rollout of Changan’s 28.59 millionth vehicle - the right-hand drive DEEPAL S05.
This development reflects a strategic shift from product exportation to establishing full-scale international manufacturing. It highlights Changan’s commitment to sustainable, intelligent production and digital innovation.

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra met with Changan Chairman Zhu Huarong ahead of the ceremony, expressing strong support for the company’s investment in Thailand and its plans to build a complete industrial chain in the country. The event also coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, adding symbolic significance.
The Rayong facility spans approximately 960,000 square meters, with an initial annual capacity of 100,000 vehicles - expected to double by 2027. The factory is equipped with green and smart technologies such as solar power, rainwater recycling, and AI-driven systems.

Additionally, Changan aims to create 30,000 local jobs and bolster regional supply chains and tax contributions.
Under its "In Thailand, For Thailand" strategy, Changan is positioning the country as a hub for Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Over the next three years, the company plans to launch 12 new NEV models and roll out advanced AI and driver-assistance technologies.

To support global operations, Changan has also established a new spare parts warehouse in Rayong, designed to ensure fast delivery and high customer satisfaction.
This expansion aligns with Changan’s broader “Green Plan,” “Intelligent Plan,” and “Vast Ocean Plan,” as it targets 5 million global vehicle sales and 3 million NEV sales annually by 2030.

In 2024, the company sold 2.684 million vehicles globally, with NEV sales increasing 52.8% year-on-year. Since entering the Thai market in late 2023, Changan has launched seven models which includes Deepal S07, E07 and Avatr 11 which has collectively achieved over 14,000 units in sales.
Chairman Zhu Huarong reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to Thailand, stating that the Rayong plant will serve as a global benchmark for smart, low-carbon vehicle manufacturing.
