Xiaomi officially unveiled its first electric (EV) SUV, the Xiaomi YU7, during its recent 15th Anniversary event. This marks the company’s second major EV release, following the success - and controversy - of its SU7 EV saloon.
CEO Lei Jun announced that more than 258,000 units of the SU7 have already been delivered to date and the pricing for the YU7 will be revealed in July 2025.
The Xiaomi YU7 is presented as a mid-to-large SUV built on Xiaomi’s Modena platform. It measures 4,999 MM in length with a 3,000 MM wheelbase, 1,996 MM wide and 1,608 MM tall. Depending on variant and configuration, it weighs between 2,140 KG and 2,460 KG.
Buyers will have nine color options to choose from, including a distinctive green inspired by Colombian emeralds, along with orange and metallic titanium finishes. There are also five wheel designs available, offered in both 19- and 20-inch sizes.
The exterior includes sleek, inward-folding electric door handles accented with ambient lighting. The Xiaomi YU7 supports Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology, allowing drivers to use their smartphones for keyless entry and trunk access.
Inside, the cabin is fully upholstered in leather, with the seats made from Nappa leather. These seats feature a “zero gravity” recline of up to 123 degrees and a 10-point massage function. Rear passengers aren’t left out, with seats that recline up to 135 degrees and a 6.68-inch control screen that manages music, climate, and navigation.
The dashboard is anchored by a wide 1.1-metre display called “HyperVision,” composed of three high-resolution Mini LED screens. This system provides driving data, media, blind spot views, and customizable widgets.
The YU7 runs on a 4-in-1 control unit that integrates the cabin, driving systems, vehicle control and communication. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen-3 chip, which enables the vehicle to boot up in just 1.35 seconds. Software updates can be delivered over the air (OTA) and completed in as little as 15 minutes.
Three performance versions of the YU7 are available. The rear-wheel drive (RWD)model uses a single 235 kW (315 HP) motor and accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in 5.88 seconds. The Pro all-wheel drive (AWD) model features a dual-motor setup producing a combined 365 kW (490 HP), reaching 100 KM/H in 4.27 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Max AWD version boasts dual motors delivering 508 kW (680 HP), enabling a 0-100 KM/H time of just 3.23 seconds. All models are built on Xiaomi’s 800V high-voltage platform and feature V6s Plus motors, which allow ultra-fast charging - up to 620 KM of range in only 15 minutes.
Battery specifications vary by version. Both the RWD and Pro AWD models employ a 96.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering estimated CLTC ranges of 835 KM and 770 KM respectively. The Max AWD variant instead uses a 101.7 kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NMC) battery that yields a CLTC range of 760 KM.
Safety has been a major focus for Xiaomi. In the Xiaomi YU7, it features an ultra-strong steel roll cage, a large aluminum die-cast front frame, and a hybrid steel-aluminum structure Xiaomi calls an “armour cage.”
The battery is enclosed in a bullet-resistant shell, and the vehicle has undergone more than 50 safety tests. Reinforced A and B pillars further enhance crash protection.
Every variant of the Xiaomi YU7 features an advanced suite of driver assistance features. This includes Lidar, 4D radar and anti-glare cameras - all managed by Nvidia’s Drive AGX Thor platform, which provides 700 trillion operations per second. Xiaomi’s own autonomous driving system will power all assisted driving functions.
With the launch of the YU7, Xiaomi advances further into the EV space, following the success of the SU7, by combining sleek design, advanced technology, comfort, and performance in its first SUV.
