PM: No RON95 Price Hike Despite Global Tensions

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has given his assurance that the government will not raise the price of RON95 petrol, even if global oil prices spike due to ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Iran and Israel.
He said that while a rise in crude oil prices would benefit national oil company Petronas, the government’s priority is to protect the public from higher living costs.
“Oil prices fluctuate. Right now, they are still relatively low. If there’s a sharp increase, it brings good returns for Petronas. But it also affects many countries, including us. We are not going to increase fuel prices,” Anwar said.

Anwar further added that the government’s focus is on easing the burden on ordinary Malaysians, especially during uncertain global conditions.
He stressed that although Petronas stands to gain when oil prices go up, the government will not pass on that cost to the people.
RON95 is the subsidised fuel used by most Malaysians. Any price hike would have a direct impact on transport costs, inflation, and daily expenses, particularly for the B40 and M40 groups.
By maintaining the current fuel price, the government hopes to keep essential costs under control and support the public amid rising global uncertainties.
