Updated Toyota Aygo X Gains Stylish GR Sport Guise in Europe
The GR Sport badge has just landed on an unexpected model in Europe, namely the updated Toyota Aygo X.
Toyota has just given a mid-life update to one of its city cars in Europe, namely the Toyota Aygo X (pronounced as Aygo Cross). Besides the usual minor nip-and-tuck and a new hybrid (HEV) powertrain, this A-segment crossover hatch also gains a new GR Sport variant, featuring tons of sporty bits inside and out.
We’ll start with the new hybrid engine, where the Aygo X has adopted the same 1.5-litre 4-cyl HEV setup as both the TNGA-based Yaris Cross and Lexus LBX, featuring up to 114 hp. Mated to an e-CVT gearbox, the new Aygo X HEV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 10 seconds, which is a significant improvement over the previous model’s 14.9-second century sprint time.
More importantly, Toyota claims the new Aygo X HEV boasts the lowest CO₂ emissions of any non-plug-in car in Europe, although no official fuel economy rate has been published for now.
In terms of design, the updated Aygo X has gotten a pretty extensive makeover, where not only does it gain several new design features, but it also gains 76 mm in length, courtesy of a new front bumper design. Said new bumper features a larger front grille, and in the GR Sport guise, you’ll also get a GR Sport badge at the front here, on top of the honeycomb grille insert.
Other GR Sport parts primed here include new 18-inch alloy wheels, faux front intakes, an exclusive Mustard two-tone paint option with a black hood, and many more.
The GR Sport treatment continues as we get inside the Aygo X, where it gets new sporty front seats with GR embossing on the backrest, plus a GR-badged steering wheel. Other key amenities primed for this updated model include a new 7-inch digital metre cluster, a wireless charger, a redesigned climate control panel, and new upholstery made from recycled plastics and fabrics.
Although the Aygo X GR Sport boasts no real-time performance upgrades over its vanilla twin, the model does benefit from a revised chassis setup featuring retuned coil springs and dampers, while its steering calibration has been revised. The power output may remain the same, but these upgrades promise to deliver a sharper and more dynamic driving experience for the GR Sport model.
The all-new 2025 Toyota Aygo X is scheduled to arrive in selected European markets by the end of this year, with pricing details set to be announced at a later date. While there’s no chance that this sporty crossover hatch will make its way to our market, we certainly feel that the same GR Sport treatment would look fire on things like the Yaris hatchback or even the upcoming DNGA-based Yaris Cross.
