BYD Celebrates 90,000 NEVs and First Thai-Made Seal 5 DM-i

Chinese NEV-making giants BYD marked a major milestone in Thailand, celebrating the first anniversary of its Rayong factory on Monday. The event highlighted two key achievements, first bei by the delivery of its 90,000th New Energy Vehicle (NEV) followed by the production of the first Thai-assembled BYD Seal 5 DM-i.
The ceremony took place at the Rayong facility, with Somruedee Tanphairoj, Director-General of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, in attendance. Somruedee in his speech, praised the success of the BYD plant as proof of Thailand’s strong position in promoting electric vehicle (EV) development.

BYD entered the Thai market in 2022 and began construction of the Rayong factory in March 2023. Production started in July that year with the first vehicle rolled off the line celebrating the group's 8 millionth unit globally.
Speaking at the event, Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division, said the company is committed to offering Thai customers innovative technology, quality service, and premium products.
He also noted that over 6,100 people are now employed at the Rayong plant, with more than 90 percent being local Thais.

Liu also emphasized BYD’s localisation efforts, including its support for communities during natural disasters. He described these initiatives as a reflection of the strong bond between China and Thailand.
To mark the 90,000th NEV delivery, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu handed over a Denza D9 to Nualphan Lamsam, President of the Football Association of Thailand. The symbolic gesture underscored BYD’s growing presence and cultural ties in the region.
The event also celebrated the rollout of the first locally built BYD Seal 5 DM-i, Thailand’s first plug-in hybrid model. The model will now enter full-scale production at the Rayong plant, BYD’s first wholly owned passenger car factory outside China with an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles.
In the first five months of 2025 alone, BYD sold 21,458 vehicles in Thailand, a 66.5 percent increase from the same period last year.
