Camouflaged Proton e.MAS 5 Enters Merdeka Day Parade

Last year’s Merdeka Parade saw the Proton e.MAS 7 roll out in patriotic camouflage, marking its first public appearance marking a bold step into Malaysia’s electric future then.
At that time, the sight of the then still not launched EV SUV at Dataran Putrajaya drew plenty of attention and set the tone for Proton’s new EV sub-brand.
This year, that story continues. At the 68th National Day Parade, the upcoming Proton e.MAS 5 compact EV hatch made its debut. Similarly, it also marched whilst dressed in camouflage ahead of its official launch planned for later this year.

The new hatchback was joined by a convoy of 12 e.MAS 7 units driven by owners, showing that what began as a showcase last year has quickly turned into growing adoption. If 2024 was about creating awareness, 2025 is about building momentum.
The e.MAS 5 is Proton’s first affordable EV, with prices expected to start below RM80,000. Compact yet roomy, the e.MAS 5 blends practicality with city-friendly convenience, backed by safety features and modern tech to suit all kinds of drivers.

“More than a new car, the e.MAS 5 is a promise that electrification is for every Malaysian,” said PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang. “The e.MAS 7 showed the nation’s readiness for sustainable mobility, and now the e.MAS 5 will make it even more accessible.”
Unveiling it at the Merdeka Parade was more than a ceremonial gesture. Just as the e.MAS 7 once stood as a symbol of progress, the e.MAS 5 now represents the next step, bringing EVs further into the mainstream.

With its launch expected before the end of the year, Proton is positioning the e.MAS 5 as the car to carry the electric story forward, building on the foundation laid last Merdeka.
