Fourth-Gen Nissan X-Trail Gets Refreshed In Japan

Nissan has released the face-lifted fourth-gen X-Trail (chassis code: T33) in Japan, and it features a sporty new Nismo variant, plus a posh Autech guise and an adventure-ready Rock Creek guise.

The fourth-gen Nissan X-Trail (chassis code: T33), also marketed in select markets as the Rogue, has been refreshed. The face-lifted C-SUV was released in its Japanese home market earlier this week sporting a raft of changes.
Whilst much of the changes mirror what’s see in the also refreshed US-market Rogue released in late 2023, the Japanese market X-Trail also sees its variant line-up grow. This, according to Nissan, is poised to see the X-Trail appeal to a broader range of buyers.

On board, there's now an upgraded infotainment using Google Built-In. Enhanced too are the cabin's trim materials, and there's now additional cameras suppling 360-degree view with see-through function too.

Included in the line-up now is a sporty new Nismo variant, followed by a premium Autech guise. Present too is a rugged Sotoasobi package, which can be paired with the Rock Creek variant to make the X-Trail more ‘adventure ready’.
On board, the X-Trail gains an upgraded infotainment system with Google Built-In, higher-end trim materials, as well as additional cameras supplying 360-degree parking view with new see-through (Invisible Hood) function added.

Whilst the Rock Creek variant already looks rugged, the optional Sotoasobi package arguably makes the X-Trail more 'adventure ready'.
Mechanically, there are no changes to the powertrain, so the fourth-gen X-Trail for Japan continues to be offered with Nissan’s signature range of e-Power self-charging hybrid and its 1.5-litre VC-Turbo petrol mill.
Built to woo adventure-oriented buyers, the new Rock Creek guise even has an optional Sotoasobi package that brings a matte black bonnet protection wrap against stone chips plus bolt-on fender extensions from JAOS.

This refresh also sees Nissan reboot a posh new Autech variant, and it sports an exclusive Deep Ocean Blue paint, 20-inch wheels, additional blue LEDs, and chrome exterior trims.

For the non-adventure crowd, Nissan has revived the Autech premium nameplate, and this merges both a sporty exterior with an upmarket interior. Key highlights here include shiny front and rear bumper extensions, unique grille, and extra blue LEDs.
Other key additions include 20-inch wheels, as well as chrome-finished side mirror caps, side moldings and roof rails. Additionally, there’s a signature Deep Ocean Blue exterior hue pictured offered through this variant.

Besides a more upmarket cabin, the Autech variant also has an optional Sports Spec that adds performance dampers plus re-tuned electric power steering, e-40RCE AWD and VCM module delivering a sportier drive.

On board, the Autech treatment sees the X-Trail gain posh quilted leather seats, dark wood dash accents, as well as blue pipe-stitching motif plus Autech emblems. Buyers opting for the Autech Advanced Package sees extra safety, tech and comfort features.
Available next to which is a Sports Spec option that brings performance dampers, sharper steering tuning, as well as recalibrated e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive (AWD) and vehicle control module (VCM) to deliver sportier drive dynamics.

An interesting new addition is this sporty new Nismo variant, which rocks a distinct aerokit, plus an exclusive Stealth Gray and Super Black roof paintwork.

Those seeking a truly sporty twist to the X-Trail can now opt for the new X-Trail Nismo variant. It gains a distinct aerokit featuring a prominent front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser with F1-style brake light, all sporting Nismo’s signature red highlights.
Other Nismo touches include the Stealth Gray and Super Black roof paintwork, and the exclusive Enkei-supplied 20-inch aluminium wheels with a design that supposedly offers enhanced brake cooling. These are also wrapped in grippy Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.

Buyers can opt to swap from the standard seats (left) to a sportier pair of Recaro sports seats with integrated headrests (right) trimmed in leather and Alcantara and presented in Nismo's signture red-black motif.
Like the Autech variant's Sports Spec option, the Nismo variant also benefits with an ehanced chassis thanks to sports suspension, re-tuned AWD with more rear wheel distribution, plus recalibrated power steering.

On board, the X-Trail Nismo sees its cabin gain optional Recaro sport seats with integrated headrests trimmed in leather and Alcantara. There’s also the signature red-black colourway motif. In Nismo guise, the X-Trail is offered strictly as a 5-seater only.
Mechanically, there are no changes, and the X-Trail Nismo makes do with 215 PS and 525 NM generated by the standard X-Trail’s dual e-motor plus 1.5-litre turbo petrol range extender setup.

This variant also rolls on exclusive 20-inch Enkei aluminium wheels wrapped in grippy Michelin Pilot Sport tyres (left), and its aerokit also boasts an F1-style integrated brake lamp (right).

Instead, the Nismo performance magic lies chassis tuning, evident through the adoption of Kayaba Swing Valve absorbers. These get matched with recalibrated e-4ORCE AWD and VCM, the former now has greater power distribution to the rear wheels.
In Japan, this updated 2026MY Nissan X-Trail range is set to go on sale starting next month (Sept). Closer to home, it remains unclear still as to when the new fourth-gen X-Trail will eventually debut locally through brand custodians Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM).
