The operation, dubbed as Ops Pengarah, kicked off at 8.30PM Tuesday at the Kota Kemuning toll plaza and wrapped up nearly five hours later. A total of 580 vehicles were inspected, and 252 summonses were issued.

“We had one motorcyclist whose road tax expired two years ago. That was the longest overdue case we encountered during the night,” ” said Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan.

The most common excuses drivers gave were that they were too busy with work or had simply forgotten.

“Many said they had no time or it slipped their mind. But that doesn’t change the fact that these documents are essential,” Azrin stressed.

He said the goal of the operation was to remind road users that vehicle compliance isn’t optional.

“We want people to take this seriously. Road safety depends on it.”

Of the 252 offences recorded, 76 were for driving without a licence, 51 for expired road tax, and 49 for no insurance coverage. Officers also found motorcycles with illegal exhaust modifications and vehicles with non-compliant lighting. 528812450_1167374348764924_1083480384196865266_n.jpg
“We also impounded eight motorcycles and four cars, mainly for serious violations like expired road tax well past the legal limit,” he added.

Other technical offences included failure to display number plates, missing rear-view mirrors, and drivers operating without a valid Goods Driving Licence (GDL).

Azrin said operations like these are crucial ahead of the festive season when road traffic typically increases.  “We’re working closely with other agencies to ensure road users are not only aware of the rules but are following them,” he was quoted as saying.

The joint operation also involved the police, the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), and highway concessionaire teams.
