Over 60% Of Commercial Vehicle Firms Fail Safety Audit - JPJ

operasi-jpj_2.jpg More than half of commercial vehicle operators checked in a nationwide safety sweep have failed to meet required standards, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) revealed.

The month-long audit, known as Ops Khas JISA, examined 500 companies between June 23 and July 31. Shockingly, over 60% of them fell short, with the biggest issue traced to GPS devices that were either wrongly installed or not functioning as intended.

JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the findings were a wake-up call for the industry.  510444392_1019118477055048_316204444394251788_n.jpg
“The results are disappointing. This is just the first phase, and we’ll continue auditing to make sure operators comply,” he said, adding that the full exercise will cover around 300,000 operators nationwide.

Companies flagged in the first round have one month to fix the problems. Those that fail to act could see their permits cancelled, while repeat offenders will be referred to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) for stricter enforcement.

Aedy added that JPJ is looking at ways to make future audits more efficient, including digital tools to streamline checks. JPJ-Lorry-2-BM-630x473.jpeg
He also took the opportunity to caution motor event organisers, stressing that they must follow traffic laws and seek official approval from both JPJ and the police before holding any activity on public roads.

“Every organiser must take responsibility. Get the proper clearance, follow the rules, and put safety first,” he stressed.
